THE CLASS OF 1950 MOVED INTO THE SCHOOL OF NEW MARKET. THE CUSTOM AT THAT TIME WAS TO WEAR SHORT PANTS. So WHEN WE CAME TO SCHOOL THE FIRST DAY, IT LOOKED JUST LIKE A CHORUS LINE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. WHEN WE REACHED THE SECOND GRADE, WE ADDED A FEW TO ouR CLASS. THEY WERE BERNICE STEWART, NDRMA BRUNES, JANE STEELE, ROBERT EWBANK, AND HowARD GILKEY. ALSO THAT YEAR JOHN FRUITS COULDN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER AND MOVED TO CRAWFORDSVILLE. IN THE THIRD GRADE WE GAINED A RED-HEADED PUPIL WHOM WE FOUND TO BE JAMES THOMAS, LATER KNOWN AS 'RED'. BY THE TIME WE ARRIVED IN THE FOURTH GRADE, WE WERE OVERFLOWING THE SEATS AND OUT THE DOOR. THAT ALSO WAS THE YEAR THAT MILDRED SURFACE AND REITA BRATTON MOVED IN. THAT WAS THE NEXT TWO YEARS SO WE HAD TO STAY THERE UNDER THE RULE OF MRS. PATTON IN THE FIFTH GRADE AND MR. BUSER IN THE SIXTH. DURING THAT TIME ETHEL GRAHAM AND HARRIETT JARVIS CAME. THE ONLY ROOM THAT WOULD HOLD US DURING So IN 1940 WE MOVED UP TO THE SEVENTH GRADE. THAT YEAR WE CAUGHT UP WITH A FEW KIDS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AHEAD OF US. SO AS NOT TO MAKE THEM FEEL BAD, WE SHALL MENTION NO NAMES. IN THE EIGHTH GRADE, BEVERLY VANCLEAVE MOVED TO INDIANAPOLIS AND BILL HAMM MOVED IN. THEN CAME THE BIG MOMENT WE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR. THAT WAS TO BECOME 'GREEN FRESHMENn. WE ALSO GAINED THREE MOVE STUDENTS AFTER LOSING SEVERAL IN THE CHANGE FROM THE EIGHTH TO NINTH. THE THREE WERE: ROSEMARY AND DONALD WILLETT AND, OF ALL PEOPLE, JOHN FRUITS AGAIN. IN THE SOPHOMORE YEAR WE LOST QUITE A FEW PUPILS.
