playin Mr. Kirkpatrick devoted the early part of his life in pre- paration for the duties which he had chosen to znake his life work He was well qualified to perform the responsibilities he assumed in the guidance of the youth of our country. His counsel in school affairs was frequently sought as he was recognized as a man of authority and sound judgement. His excellent character and sincerity inspired many of his students to seek a higher education. His devotion to his duty, his fairness to all, and his keen interest in students won for him the high esteem and cooperation of the patrons in the com- munity which he served. A continued interest in former students was always manifested by Mr. Kirkpatrick. The joy of their higher attainments and success in life was a source of great satisfaction to him and was reflected in his daily conversation with his intimate friends. For two decades he rendered an untiring service to New Market School. This will always be remembered by his students, fellow teachers, and patrons of the school. It is a just tribute to his memory to say that he was most worthy of the respect and high regard of all who knew him. He was a friend to ally he was a citizen whose upright and noble life was a standard of emulation to his friends. He was ever ready to proffer a hand of aid, and his utmost efforts were exerted for the welfare and promotion of the school which he represented.
