I went on home and told my cook about the accrdent and that I would have to eat wrth her alone She was a nrce lady whose name was Phyllrs She told me how odd her last name was but sard rt used to be Halderman Here I had my cook several days before I knew she was one of my old classmates Phyllrs told me that her husband was dorn mrssrorrary work 'Ind slrc cooked for busrness men durrng the sunrmer lor pr rc trcal cxpcrrence as she taught home economrcs at Mramr Unrversrty I vrsrted my factory several trmes and Mr Grrle sard that wrth hrs modern ma chrncs he would have rt done wrthrn a few days except for the parntrng whrch he couldnt do I made an apporntnrent wrth a painter who I heard advertrsed over the radro could parnt any burldrng rn town wrthrn two hours He had a small trarn runnrng on a track around the burldrng wrth a parnter rn each car who gave the burldrng a coat Thrs was somethrng new and Mr Slorp was the only parnter rn town who could handle t When I wrote hrm a S2 000 check for hrs work I found he was the same Gene Slorp that I knew rn school Machrnery was all ordered and bought for my factory but rt couldn t run without electrrcrty I asked my nerghbors to recommend a good electrrcran They told me Earl Schlecty was the best rn town so I went to hrs home to see hrm about wrrrng my fac tory Whrle we were talkrng a lrttle grrl walked rn and asked Could I have a precc of candy Grandpa' I told Mr Schcler ty that this lrttle chrld looked lrke a grrl I knew rn school Her Dorrs walked rn the same grrl I krrew oxer thrrty years ago When Mr Schlecty sard he would send several men wrth wire from hrs large storehouse I remembered that he was the same man who starte.l a small erectrrcal shop on old Marn Street The next day I checked my ad rn the newspaper announcing the openrng of my factory In a column close to mme was another advertrsement reading New brcycles wrth radio heater and free wheeling attached have just arrrved at Bakers Brcycle Shop I copred the address and went to see hrm and I was correct rt was my friend Donald Baker He told me that he and hrs brothers owned a brcycle factory rn Rrch rrrond and he sold them rn hrs shop He saw my ad rn the paper and told me if I wanted good flocks to trme my employees I should go to the clock company next to hrs factory rrr Rrchmond I took Mr Bakers advice and radroed a bus to Richmond I walked rnto the huge burldrng the Gartrell Clock Co and asked to see the owner The clerk sard he would call Davrd Yes rt was Davrd Gartrell the same fellow who tore apart hrs Benrus and mme too every day rn study hall We had an enlrghtenrng conversation and after orderrng my clocks I took a walk through hrs factory to see the many patented wat ches he had One whrch rnterested me most was an alarm watch whrch burned your arm and then threw water on rt to awaken you A few days passed and then Dr Cox phoned that my wrfe could be released from the hosprtal Trred of rrdrng taxres I bought a car from Dowler s Auto Sales and took Phyllrs my cook for a lrttle rrde before gorng after my wife My factory was now nearly frnrshed and my wrfe and I decrded to have a large celebratron before openrng rt I thought of havrng a prrvate party but who could I rnvrte I knew only a few around New Madrson srnce I had been gone so many years and most of those I remembered were old schoolmates of mrne Say that was a good rdea why not rnvrte all my old classmates rn school name was Doris Wills.
