We'll never forget . . . the sad moments of defeat, the joy of victory, the excitement of Homecoming, anticipation of Prom, and finally that walk down the aisle for the Seniore, that will lead them to a new life ahead. The Annual Staff, and myself, hope to capture a few of these mo- ments for you, and organize them into a book, in hopes that you will never forget them. We Came, We Saw, We’ll Never Forget We came that August of '68 Most of us unwilling to wait, Seeking knowledge--ready to cope With problems--with ideas--with hope We saw new pupils--new teachers here and there We saw old friends who really care The fresh painted halls--and new books too Waiting for students to study them through. We'll never forget the tests, the plays, The games, the dances, and routine of the days, The meetings, the fun, the plans we made, But best of all--we'rc glad we stayed. He saw our needs for a good band, which he built into a large one--he formed the Golden Tones for those with special talent ... he aroused interest in getting new uniforms and fired the students into major projects to get them . . . We'll Never Forget ... his friendly smile--his outstanding personality--his help- fulness to us all. However, they are all dead, so we set it back to the year 1984. All stores have a bridge to cross, so as we cross the bridge, heading for New London, we see Janis out looking for all the little Ogres underneath. As we arrive at good ole N.L.H.S. we see Bob and Dave Anderson picking up paper. They graduated back in '69' but they're still working of their detention. Inside, Ray Crinstead, the school secretary, is writing out ad- mits. Ray always did want to follow in his mother's footsteps. Now the scene changes to New London Tiger Stadium where the 1984 Summer Olympics arc getting underway. Sandy Crinstead is entering the stadium with the Olympic torch and Sharon White, the first lady mayor of New London, begins to make a speech. However, there is a loud clatter that interrupts her. Oh, it's just Mr. Kamp- hoefner adjusting the mike for the P.A. system. One of the big events at the Olympics is expected to be Ev Miller, the human dynamo trying to out run that silver Dodge. Another big contest will be between Dave Hollingsworth and Dick Cittings in the guzzling finals. We hear the announcement that Massive Mike Cox of Poland has been injured and won't be able to wrestle. He stubbed his toe. As we leave the stadium and go downtown, we hear the fire alarm, but it is a false alarm. It was just Debby Allen fixing a Chuck roast. There are many businesses that have sprung up over the past few years. One of them, the Bailey Construction Company, run by Ridge Bailey, spends most of its time helping Don C.reulich get up those MudE Laines. Becky Ball is still horsing around in the dentist's office. There's a new car dealer in town. Charlie Anderson is selling Volkswagons with his new inovation, a collaps- ible stick shift. There is another Volkswagon salesman or rather saleswoman in town and that's Karen Drcvland. But she works for another dealer. The class of '69' produced three beauticians. Shirley McCann, whose specialty is the bubble cut, Tony Luedtke, who specializes in hair color, and Jim Ward who is a cosmetics specialist. Rick Swailes and Tony Thomas have their own taxi service. Tony runs between Morning Sun and New Lon- don, Rick's route is from New London to the old highway. The New London Journal is now under the editorship of Dave Collins with his head printer, Forrest Butner. Ike Hedged in on the Benson's business, and changed the corporation's name to Blythe and Hedges. Leroy Coleman started out with just one motorcycle and now he has a whole junkyard. Several members of the class of '69' have made it in show business. Jim Darbyshire, Dann Larmore, Raquel Welch, and Sharon Septer are starring in a new smash movie The Night They Raided Garvey's . Vickie Christensen has taken over Granny Goodwich's position trying to out trick Sugar Bear in the Sugar Crisp Commercials. Every class has a few that don't make it into the profession they wanted. Peg Shelledy, Jo Marshall, Gail Strawhacker, and Evan Rosenberger are those in the class of '69' who didn't make it. Three of them can be seen performing nightly in the chorus line at Janice Gerst's Caberet. (Poor old Jo couldn't even make the chorus line !) Also performing here is the renowned jazz duet of Martha McNeeley and Jo Eda Totemeier. Up at Iowa Wesleyan College, Marta Hoel led a student revolt back in 1971 and has remained in power ever since. If Brenda Parsons married Larry Van Syoc, she'd be--Brenda Van Syoc. 17 Honor Roll SENIORS Debbie Allen Robert Anderson Bcckv Ball David Collins Janis Damcron Karen Drevland Marta Hoel Martha Me Neeley Brenda Parsons Peggy Shelledy Tony Thomas JoEda Totemeier JUNIORS Susan Bailey Denise Brinkmeyer Dennis Brumm Jolane Greulich Jeri Johnson Joyce Layman Richard Shacklctt Evelyn Simmons SOPHOMORES Denise De Jaynes Kyle DcVore Gary Dustman Dennis Grinstead Judy Herrill Greg Hoel Jim Johnson Stanley Kuhlcnbcck Chris Scherer Elaine Strawhacker FRESHMEN Dirk Brinkmeyer Shelley Cox Lance McAllister Betty McCleary Jeff McPheron Julaine Totemeier 18 J cjo oe.s (! It procures dance bands and arranges the times for these activities. This group met with the school board to give sugges- tions and to get suggestions as to what they expect from students. They conduct locker inspections, and do many other things for the school. 34 Informer Seated around table left to right--Jeri Johnson, Jeannine Dotson, Rick Shacklett, Dave Collins, Jo Marshall, Deb- bie DeKraai, Gail Strawhackcr.
