Our Town 1982 Let's see what our glorious seniors are doing half a score and five years from now. Here wc see Twinkle Toes ALLEN twipping through the tulips in the city square. He jumps for Joy- BILL JOY that is, but Bill eludes him with the same swift moves that he uses when he plays with the Harlem Globetrotters. Here wc find Honest OGRE'S Car Lot, supplied with the dealer's own personally tested vehicles. (Guaranteed until off the lot). Here's a model with a built-in telephone (pole). RUSS SEPTER, the most frequent customer has just walked in to hunt for another screaming machine. He's never had a dog you know. SIS PHILIPS, one of the few car saleswomen left, shows him several slightly used Mustangs. They're not in bad shape considering. She says they might have another in shortly, but you never can tell. Anti across town we find SHUPPY'S Blue Bird Pub where Cracie and Steve are doing the latest dance while COMMANCHE warltoops. Behind the pub is the small office of Dr. STEVE READ INGER and his associates Dr. Jckyll and Mr. COOPER, with their three highly trained nurses JANET SMITH, CAROL RIEPE, and PATTY THOMPSON. Surprisingly enough, their first patients were John, Rainy, and Bill. GREG SMITH, the hospital chemistry lab technician, is working on a special drug that relieves spastic at lacks for his good friend and buddy DEANNE DEVORE, who is frequently shaken by these since the recent take- over of Red China by DANA HAMMER. Dana couldn't have done it without his chief bodyguard. BILL COUSINS, and his assistant BOB RICE, with their souped-up wheely machines. Across the street a booming voice flows from UNDERWOOD'S Bar and Grill, Shuppy's nearest competition. The voice of ROBBY Weismuller, (alias McCLEARY) accompanies the dancing of the best go-go girl in town. JANE WILDO LAYMAN. Further down the street wc find FINNY'S FUNNY PAPER, but due to the late Mrs. Finny's--ropc accident, CHERYL GRIGGS is now presiding editor and DARLEEN SIMMONS was just promoted to head reporter. Darlene is now on a hot story covering the return of starlet BARBARA BISHOP, who has just passed through New London on her way toMt. Pleasant. JOYCE DARBYSHIRE, Barb's traveling agent, decided to make the trip since she hasn't tempted--I mean socn--Bob--I mean--Ml. Pleasant for a long time. I.uedtke's Cocktail Lounge, situated on the corner, is one of the hot night spots of the nation. There are many reasons for the club's success; one is the excellent gourmet delights prepared by the renowned DON LUEDTKE-- owncr and head chef. Another contribution is the one and only singing waiter (boasted to be the speediest in 100 miles) LARRY KAMPMEIER. Larry has just topped the charts with his new hit When It Starts Raining Banana Peels I'll Come Slipping Home to You anti the flip side It has been Lonesome in the Saddle Since my Horse Died. One of the most frequent customers, BRENDA, always orders l eef--she doesn't care for the taste of Birth. GERRY RANCK, Brenda's best friend, cats beef too because shrimp makes her feel self-conscious. MARGE McCABE, a loner in the bar, patiently waits until her husband is of age, along with KEITH who has the same problem, but with the opposite sex. Keith runs the town's best nursery; well it should be anyway with all the experience he's had with children. While back at the church, the people inside are trying to figure out how such a loud and belligerent girl as DIANE ever hooked calm, cool, and collected JIM DICKEY, who found his Secret. Of course every class has its failures, and this unhappy fate, to no one's suprisc, landed on poor JANICE GIL- MORE, who it seems became so interested in her father's work that she decided to keep it in the family, un- fortunately from the wrong side of the fence. It seems she had a slight disagreement with the late RICHARD TOTEM EIER The murder was said to have taken place in the poorer section of town, in what is known as JIMMY ANDER- SON'S Geisha House. While JANE NORTH, PAT WILLEY, and DENISE TOTEM EI F.R arc poor excuses for Geisha girls, they get their jobs done, which is good enough for Jimmy. In the local stadium, that great pole vaultcr, JOHN MEARS, is practicing to break his own world record of 19 feet 9 9 16 inches. Outside the stadium in CAROLYH DAMERON'S parking lot, KAREN CLAUD and PEGGY GRINSTEAD join the crowd. The lights arc just going out in the post office run by CAROL JOHNSON, the local postmistress, as TW1NK H.OA TS by WAVING as she goes to RITA COUSIN'S Shoe Palace. She SAILS in hurriedly, but has to wait while MARY HERBERT sells LINDA WHITE a pair of Denny shoes. Here arc a few quotes from the national poet laureate, KARILYN SHACKLETT.
