-E 4 DRAMATIC CLUB The Dramatic Club was very active this year under the direction of Mrs Williams Membership in the club was extended to the new stu- dents ln high school The club was divided early in the year to study coral reading, then on the morning of December 16 it presented 'D1cken's Christmas Caroln to the grade school and high school ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS A variety of assembly programs held in the auditorium were en- joyed by the students Chapel was held once a month with Rev Ellie, Rev Sutton, and Dr Eastwood delivering the sermons and students par- ticipating also Other programs included trick ping-pong artists, an ex-convict speaker, the Miesner Players, and the Parkinson Ensemble HOMEMAKING TEAS The Homemaking classes of N L H S gave two teas during the year The first was a Valentine Tea, given in February on Friday the 13th It consisted of a program presented by the Senior girls The menu was chosen by the Freshmen and prepared by the Sophomores Each girl was allowed one guest The second tea was held later in the spring with the teas centered around a style show RECREATION ROOM The Recreation Room was a new addition to the school this year Room 6 was picked for its location Games and ping pong were set p and new records weze bought for those wished to dance Candy was sold by members of the Senior Clase every noon Here the students spent STUDENT COUNCIL The main event sponsored by the Student Council during the year was the Homecoming This event high lighted a victorious football season and consisted, in part, of electing a Homecoming Queen From each class in high school four girls were picked as representatives and from these the male population of New London High School picked a Queen Velma Parsons was elected Queen for the occasion and Dorothy Piper and Janet Edwards were her attendants She was crowned at the half by the 1947 Queen, Freda Ball After the game a dance was held in the gymn and admission f fifty cents per person was charged Tiny Biggs and his orchestra furnished the music The night before the big game a large pep rally, organized by the cheerleaders, was staged and a bonfire built This was prophecy of a Niw London victory over Bloomfield which came to pass the next eve n ng JUNIOR CLASS PLAY The Junior Class Play was presented February 12 in the high school auditorium and was directed by Mrs Williams The production, 'The Saturday Evening Ghostu took place in England Hiram Otis, a wealthy American soap magnate, rented a haunted castle The ghost Sir Simon de Cantervills that haunted the castle was quite a ladies man and soon fell in love with Virginia, the daughter of Hiram Matters were further complicated for him by the Otis twins and their antics Those who attended this production spent an enjoyable evening gi' ivi 52 . - u many enjoyable noon hours. o 0 0 I his
