Future Teachers of America Row 1: Darlaine Cooke, Ariane Barnes, Sandy Sutherland, Dan Ringler, Teddi Towstiak, Judi Finkel, Ginny Redies. Row 2: Gloria Delamater, Joyce Lowery, Ianet Copley, Marcia Kirkpatrick, Sally Schneider, Kathleen Duta, Karen Staples, Floreece Leedy, Kathryn King. Row 3: Rosemary Wilson, Lois Winfield, Susan Reid, Linda Garrett, Barbara Blake, Marlene Burrows, Sandy Tidswell, Sue Shanefelter. Row 4: john Walek, Dave Wells, Barrie Hauser, Gary Bonney, Tom Steinke, Tom Brundage. The Ira L. Landis Chapter of the F.T.A., with Mr. Girton as advisor, grew to quite a large number this year. The F.T.A. consisted of 35 members, only j'uniors and seniors are eligible. The activities for the 19584959 year included studentfteaching for various elementary and high school teachers, attending a state-wide meeting at Bowling Green University to discover the merits of each field of teaching, and also attending a ciountyfwide meeting in Norwalk to meet fellow F.T.A. members and learn how different groups are organized. The F.T.A. also selected a needy family at Christmas, and presented the family with food and toys. At each meeting, a teacher spoke on college life and the trials and tribulations of teaching. For something new, the program chairman started the idea of showing educational films to the members present at each meeting. The National Thespian Society Troop 1347 of New London High School is sponsored by Mr. Kenneth Laborie and Mr. Robert Cotton. The organization is for those who are interested in dramatics. Regular business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. The officers for 195811959 were: Dan Ringler, president, Ariane Barnes, vicefpresident, Ginny Redies, sec' retaryg Jim Mitchell, treasurer, and Marla Ringler, clerk. In addition to the regular meetings, the Thesf pians gave two plays during the year. On Decemf ber 18, 1958, they presented a three act comedy entitled The Whole Town's Talking. At the Spring Festival, May 1, 195 9, a series of three one act plays were presented, a comedy - Father Lives With Seven Women, a mystery- Scary Hollow, and a tragedy- L'Night Scene.
