Gfaaa Jlwtcm, In Sepember of 1941 we started the frrst grade At the txme of thls great ex ent we were not thmkxng of ourselxes as belng the class of 53 but merelx as xerx small flrst graders Mrss I-Ilbbard was our flrst grade teacher 'ihe taught us how to wnte our rames and the three Rs Mlss Hubbard also took p1ctures of us and helped us to paste them on calendars to glxe our parents for Lhrrstmas presents Miss Cole was our second grade teacher She led us through the mtrlcacles of that mterestmg new subject spelhng The game of cops and robbers whnch we plaxed out under the old bandstand occupred most of our recess perxods thxs xear MISS Teets managed our temperamental personahtles m the thrrd grade lt was m the third grade that we put on a plav Old 'VlacDonald with Rod Brown ln the tltle role It was here that we made paper mache anrmals and had a tea party program to entertam Mr Hess the muslc teacher Bob Whlte from Massachusetts jomed our class this vear In the fourth grade Mrss Burke Introduced us to the multxphcatxon tables and long dlxxslon Some of us liked Mlss Burke so well that we trled to thmk of some wax to stax ln the fourth grade for two years but somehow we got promoted anx w ax Chfford Belmer and Robert A Gray jomed us thls year Our loxe lom advlsor m the fifth grade was our teacher Mrs Fmkle VVe took all ol our problems large or small to her Harold Daxrdson became our classmate thus xear With fue whole grades below us we felt when we reached the slxth grade that our feet on the ground eanette Farlev Sally gchlageter and Larrx Holkenborg became a part of us thls year Luke exerv seventh grade class when we arnxed rn the hlgh school bulldmg we were as green as grass Howex er we soon learned the basrc rule VVhen the bell rmgs RUN Even so we were scared to death for fear we would run lnt0 an upper classman Among the most fascmatmg thmgs ln thls new lxfe was studx hall Also txprcal of the usual seventh graders we thought that studj hall was for the mam purpose of lookmg at the pictures ln the encyclopedras Mr Clmger was our class adxlsor and our rapxdlx growxng class roll was expanded bx Donna Massle and Russell Edgmgton Mrss Groman guided our class through lts enghth grade actlvmes Thrs year was ex en bugger than lts predecessors because rt brought erghth grade graduatlon How excited we were when Mr DeGood handed us those dlplomas' Bonme Rlder and ennenda Ross wc re new members of the class At last we were freshmen We no longer feared upper classmen' 'Xlr Semnha was our advisor On of our mam events of the xear was a class partx to whlch each of us mvlted a guest Most of the exenlng was spent ln dancmg Our class was greatlx en Iarged this year wrth new students commg from Hartland Clarksfleld and Frtchxllle These were Betty Suda Kae Reld Lols Oney Frances Sylvester Roberta Earl Connie Marett Hazel Goldsmlth errx Brlton Anon Cole Charles Knapp Ronme Streng Clyde Qmlth and Mary Paramore also jolned our class from Ruggles In our sophomore year we loxed the subject of blology Mr Wicks made lt easrer For us by having projects We would get up at sxx on Sunday mornlngs to look for specr mens Mr Wicks was also our class adxxsor When our junlor year arnx ed we found ourselxes besleged by the problem of whether or not to have a dance after prom because ln past vears lt had seemed a waste of monex After many class meetlngs and dlscusslons we decnded to hold a 'lumor Semor Banquet Sponsored by NEWLON METAL PRODUCTS COMPANY I K ' ' , .
