INDUSTRIAL ARTS Owung to the fact that Mr Lowell was snducted unto the Army before school started and because lndustrlal Arts teachers were very scarce many of them being an the armed servuces or warkung nn war plants It was neces sary to cut the program from a full day to half a day However the same number of Hugh School students were accommodated as before The purpose of thus department as to make durect applucatron of know ledge The student as fnrst required to take a beglnnrng course an Mechanucal Drawnng whlch teaches hem to make a worknng drawing of many objects so that he may be able to use a workvng drawing later In the process of mak Ing a particular article In the shop As the student progresses un Drawing he learns to make other types of drawlng such as nsometrac perspective developments etc ment furnished many of the signs used In advertlslng school events Local merchants also used some of these signs IH thelr advertnsung Signs made to stimulate the sale of War Bonds and Stamps drew much attentnon ln the shop the proper use of tools IS taught so that lt wlll be second nature to take care of tools so that thier usefulness may be prolonged and so that they may be ready for efflcuent work when needed There were many useful articles made Lamps made on the turnsng lathe seemed to be the most popular :tem Book racks chests magazune racks tables of varuous kunds and some useful farm equipment were made durxng the year A repalr department was also malntaaned and this proved quite popular both from a standpoint of repairs around the school as well as from the cltnzens nn the communlty Considering the teacher shortage which especually affected thus depart ment, the year was very successful 6405 I I I .
