EN EL HI 3, E unnn -lumnuunnununmnnmnunummnnn nnuuu E later Ashland's second team visited New London. The game was uninter- esting and badly played although New London beat Ashland 12 to 0. On October 21st, New London played Vermilion winning over them 18 to 0. The outstanding game of the season was played with VVellington No- vember 4+th. It had been customary for VVellingon to beat New London each year. The last two years the score was 87 and 97 to 0 in favor of VVelling- ton. This year they had again planned on winning and had said that they would win with a score of 100 to 0. This game was witnessed by more people than any other game of the season, there being between three hundred and Hfty and four hundred people on the side lines, nearly one hundred of these being from VVellington. VVellington High was surprised when it gained only twelve points in the Hrst half and seven in the last half. They tried ever so hard to run up a high score by using all the plays they had. New London High could not score in the first three quarters, but in the last quarter they scored two touch defwns, and failed to kick goal either time. This ended the hard fought game with a score of 19 to 12. Due to a perhaps unintentional accident. Alvin Casto, our regular quar-. ter back was disabled in the early part of the game by a broken ankle. This was a great loss to the team in this game for Byron VVhite. regular end, had to take Casey's place, and we lost a good end and a good quarter back by the same accident. Needless to say, Alvin's good work as a quarter backs, was greatly missed during the rest of the season. The game was well played by both teams. New London showed what she could do if she had to. The people of YVellington said that New Lon- don had the best coached team of any they had played this year. The squad celebrated Armistice Day by bringing home a defeat of 56 to 0 from Shelby. lfVe felt better after November 25th when wc. in turn, defeated Greenwich 38 to 6. The football season closed November 30th with the Alumni game which resulted in a victory for the High School with a score of 144 to 0. Much credit must be given Coach Hogsett.. for the achievements of the New London team this year. A member of the All American, in 1912. Hogsett. has real football experience. He was liked by all mem- bers of the squad and they were eager to work for him. Hogsett had good support and cooperation from beth the school and the business men of New London. and was enabled to put a team on the field, of which the school had a reason to feel proud. The football squad had to work for support from the business people of the town. as the school has no Athletic Association. Through the kind- ness of our public-spirited men and women of the town, enough money was obtained to furnish each member of the gridiron with a complete outfit of the finest quality We believe the season just ended is the beginning of a new era of football for New London, and we hope that the record of our team in the coming years may more than justify our prediction that the New London High School will be a foe to be both respected and feared throughout North f'entral Ohio.
