CLASS HISTORY In the year nineteen hundred and forty-six a group of sixty-five excited children entered New London School for the first time. Due to the large en- rollment our first grade was divided in- to two classes and remained divided through most of our grammar grade years. In these first eight years our class lost twenty-one students but we were fortunate in gaining fifteen new stu- dents. In the year of nineteen hundred and fifty-four our class finally entered the ninth grade as green freshmen with an enrollment of fifty eight students. Again due to the large number of eager students it was necessary that we be divided into three classes. Our class ad- visors for the year were Mr. L. A. Price, Mr. Max P. Webb, and Miss Myrtle Bes- cher. During this year we lost thirteen students and were unfortunate in not gaining any new ones. In the year nineteen hundred and fifty-five we entered the tenth grade with thirty-seven members. Consisting of two classes we lost three members, Shirley Jones, Julia Broadway, and Mil- lie Sides but were fortunate in gaining a former member, Joyce Lowder. Our class advisors were Mr. Joe D. Kelly and Mr. L. A. Price. The main attraction of this year was a party at Happys’ Lake. As juniors of New London High our successful events were the Junior-Senior Banquet, the Junior play “Finders Creepers”, and keeping the concession stand at basketball games. For high achievement, outstanding qualities of leadership and nobel char- acter eight of our Junior class were in- ducted into the National Beta Club: Carolyn Russell, Katherine Griffin, Faye Hinson, Jackie McSwain, Donald Britt, Donald Griffin, Ronald Furr and Jerry Harward. We lost Charles Doby, Jimmy Poplin, and Dewey Russell. We only gained one new student, Steve Saunders. The class advisor was Mrs. Dorothy Valsame. In nineteen hundred and fifty-seven we became seniors with an enrollment of thirty-eight members. During the year we gained three more students, Ginger Clark, Barbara Allred, and Tommy Lambert making an enrollment of forty-one seniors. Our advisor is Mrs. Martha Rogers. The project of the senior class is the publication of the yearbook, “The Lon- doneer”, with Donald Britt as editor. The main attraction was the senior play, “Call Me Penny”. Donald Griffin Historian
