Class Prophecy Being endowed with the power to prophecy, i have decided to look ten years into the future and recount to you the things that have happened to the class of ' 57. I was not surprised to find that our own Betty Griffin had won the title of Miss Universe against worldwide competition. Neva Jo Hunter is a wealthy socialite, the wife of the president of the Aluminum Company of America. Breaking Babe Ruth ' s home run record is Clinton Talbert of the New York Yankees. Carolyn Cranford is the glamorous star of the Ice-Capades of ' 67. Gary Pickier, the internationally famous zoologist and explorer, is plan- ning to leave for Africa to hunt big game. That world famous detective, America ' s Sherlock Holmes, is none other than Donald Faulkner. Carolyn Arey has achieved worldwide fame in the field of interior decorat- ing. She is now working for a large store in Dallas. Howard Chandler is the best and the most daring race car driver in the country. All the kids who were crazy about Elvis Presley in ' 57 have a new idol in ' 67. Who is he? Why he ' s none other than that cat from ole N.L.H.S., Ronald Crawley. Faye McIntyre, who is one of Hollywood ' s leading models, is President of the Ronald Crawley Fan Club. Who is the current mistress of the White House - - - The President ' s Lady? Why, its none otljer than our own Mary Esther Biles. W. C. Flake has become a concert pianist. He is currently appearing at Carnegie hall. It seems that Priscilla Smith has finally found time to write her book. It was Number One on the best seller list for months and was voted the best book of the year. Gerald Smith, who made one billion on his invention of the atomic mousetrap, is one of the ten richest men in the world. Class Mistory In the fall of the year nineteen hundred and forty-five, twelve long years ago, a group of excited children entered New London School as first graders. The years passed, and at last the big day arrived when thirty seven of us entered high school as green freshmen. Our class officers were Betty Griffin, President; Priscilla Smith, Vice President; Ava Kirk, Secretary; Gary Pickier, Treasurer; and Mr. L. A. Price, Class Advisor. We were very glad to have Peggy Pickier, Betty Griffin, Carolyn Cranford, and Reba Morton join our class. Leaving the class were Sylvia Mauldin and Jerry Russell. At the end of our freshman year we enjoyed a picnic at Morrow Mountain. In the year 1954 we entered the tenth grade with thirty six members. Our class advisor was Mr. Joe D. Kelly. Our class officers were Gerald Smith, President; Carol Glover, Vice President; Earlene Smith, Secretary; Peggy Pickier, Treasurer; Mary Esther Biles and Charles Hildreth, Reporters. During this year we lost Franklin Parker, Don Falkner, Doris Williams, Ronald Miller, and Shirley Palmer; and welcomed Charles Hildreth. The highlight of our sophomore year was a party at Mirror Lake. Gwen Calloway represented our class as Miss New London High. In the year 1955, we advanced to the eleventh grade. Our class officers were Priscilla Smith, President; Gary Pickier, Vice President; Earlene Smith, Secretary; Peggy Pickier, Treasurer; Mary Esther Biles and Betty Griffin, Re- porters, and Miss Carolyn Josey, Class Advisor. Joining our class were Don Falkner, Dortha Hudson, and Ronald Crawley. We were sorry to have Charles Hildreth, Hazel McSwain, Mildred Almond, and Sherman Tucker to leave us. Mattie Furr completed the eleventh grade but did not return with us to the 12th grade. Three highlights cf this year were our Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, which was based on a Hawaiian theme; ordering our class rings, and our Junior Play, Don ' t Take My Penny. As a class project we had charge of the concession stand at the basketball games. For high achievement, outstanding leadership and noble character eight members of our junior class were inducted into the National Beta Club. They were Mary Esther Biles, Peggy Pickier, Earlene Smith, Priscilla Smith, Mildred Miller, Gerald Smith, Gary Frick, and Lewis Burris. W. C. Flake, representing our class, was crowned Halloween King. In 1956, 27 of us became dignified Seniors at last. Class officers for this year were Gerald Smith, President; Peggy Turner, Vice President; Earlene Smith, Secretary; Faye McIntyre, Treasurer; and Neva Hunter, Reporter. Our friend and advisor was Mrs. Grover Rogers. Leaving the class were Jimmy Poplin, Joe Morton, Joe Roberson while Lynn Bullock joined us. Some of the highlights of our senior year were receiving our class rings, presenting the Senior Play, China Boy , the Junior-Senior Banquet, and the publication of our annual, THE LONDONER. As graduation comes and we leave our alma mater, we are thankful for the help, influence, and friendship that Mr. Turner, the faculty, and the students have given us. These will be remembered by us, the Class of 1957, for- ever. Historian Mary Esther Biles
