Class History In the year nineteen hundred and forty-four a group of excited children entered New London for the first time. The years to us passed very slowly, but the big day came when we were green freshmen in the year of 1952. We entered the ninth grade with forty-six members, our Class officers for the year were Alton Lentz, President; Reba Crisco, Vice President; Patsy Goodman, Secretary; Helen Plamer, Treasurer; Mr. L. A. Price, Class Advisor. At the end of our freshman year we had lost six members of our class: Ervin Fes- perman, Rachel Wise, Bobby Walker, Fred Rhodes, Betty Whitley, Jeanette Sides. We were very hapypy to have Marlene Morton and Patsy Goodman join our class. In the year of 1953 we entered the tenth grade with forty-four members. Our class advisor for the year was Mr. Hugh Giles. Class officers for the year were Joe Cal- loway, President; Alton Lentz, Vice-President; Earnestine, Treasurer; Loretta Burris, Sec- retary. It has been the custom for many years at New London High for the Junior Class to entertain the graduating seniors to a formal banquet, and for the first time we enter- tained the seniors with a Junior-Senior Prom which followed at the High School Gym- nasium. Another successful event was the presentation of the Junior play, Bolts and Nuts” on April 8, 1955. Juniors taking part were Judy Lowder, Marlene Morton, June Wil- liams, Carol Strider, Joe Calloway, Don Honeycutt, Norma Sue Lowder, Boyce Talbert, Janie Pence, Garry Greene, Rayvon Morton, Sidney Turner, and Alton Lentz. For high achievement, outstanding qualities of leadership and noble character twelve members of our Junior Class were inducted into the National Beta Club. They were Ar ilia Nash, June Williams, Carol Lee Strider, Judy Lowder, Marlene Morton, Mary Alice Smith, Joyce Hahn, Alton Lentz, Sidney Turner, Jahala Treece, and Jimmy Lowder. It was nineteen hundred and fifty-five. Thirty-five seniors were present for enroll- ment in August of 1955. Missing were Jimmy Lowder, Marlene Honeycutt, Earnestine Lowder, Charles Tucker, Don Treadway, Joel Bullock, and Naomie Burroughs. Class officers for our senior year were Don Honeycutt, President; Alton Lentz, Vice President; Jahala Treece, Treasurer; Ruby Lelfer, Secretary. Our home room advisor was Mrs, Maratha Rogers. Publication of the yearbook, The Londoner, was a project of the senior class with Alton Lentz as editor. The play LittleWomen” was directed by Mrs. Rogers. Those taking part were Joyce Hahn, Helen Palmer, Judy Lowder, Sylvia Howard, Mary A. Smith, June Williams, Alton Lentz, Shelvia J. Turner, Joe Calloway, James Moss and Rayvon Morton.
