Superintendent Loofboro, a very capable administra tor, has done his best to see that the education he oversees is liberal and broadening. His accomplish- ments have served as a monument for the students passing through Washington High School. The pioneering of television supervised study is a prime example of foresight and leadership portrayed by our superintendent. It is with great pride that we the class of 1958, dedicate our annual to him. 2

We.4'aw67Lpz!aZaw'a ' Paul M. Loofboro, Superintendent Mr. Loofboro ' as Dear Seniors: There are so many subjects I might choose for my annual message, that the first job is to decide which of the possibilities will be omitted and which I will try to develop. lt occurs to me that this very problem of mine at the moment is one of the important ones which each of you must also face. There is such a variety of opportunity today for fun, for work, and just about anything, that most of us are fre- quently confused and somewhat bewildered by it all. Wise selection from whatever is offered or available in any field is actually one of the important keys to success. Many have overlooked this basic fact and rushed into making hasty choices which, at the moment, seemed very good, but later discovered the wisdom of the old adage, Act in haste, - repent at leisure. Almost universally people in their middle years regret some or many of their earlier unwise acts and choices. Why didn't someone tell me? is a common lament. The fact is that most of us were told--sometimes very often. We simply didn't listen or understand at that time. The spirit of youth is daring and wonderful, and willingness to explore new fields in the exercise of imagination is an absolute necessity in making progress. We are currently seeing a great popular realization of the importance of science in our cultural survival. I wish to emphasize a slightly more personal point. Science has developed an approach to problems Qoften called the scientific method J which is useful and rewarding in our everyday living just as it is in research. Essentially this is being sure that all available related information is made the basis for'our judgements fselectionj whenever we decide on a choice. Much misery will be avoided by the application of this principle, which, of course, includes restraint and caution as well as the collection of information. Our purchases, job selection, finding the one and only, and the thousands of other choices we must make will be sources of enduring satisfaction if we will always remember to be open-minded, free from prejudice, and base them on religious and moral values, QM! 777.
