This lmfortunate sit- uation is, of course, depress- ing to thoughtful people. However, there is plenty of room for hope and an unlimited challenge in the opportimity and responsibility these world conditions give us Americans. It is our great chance to assume true world leadership which surely will come to us if we really de- serve it. Realization of this intern- ational honor, actually becoming and remaining worthy leaders of world culture is inescapably the civilized world 's assignment to you people now graduating from our high schools and colleges in these wonderful years. I confidently expect that we will see advances in science, travel, culture, and international relationship which will astonish even the most imaginative of us.
