OFFICERS Presldent Wesley Calef Vlce Presldent Ardell Roepke Secretary AIICG Mae Zlemer Treasurer Arthur Palmer The Forensic ASSOCl3tl0H N 1925 an organlzatlon was started It was planned wlth the xdea of promotlng an mterest ln forenslc actlvltxes wlthln the school and ln any forenslc contest ln whlch the school was to be represented At the tlme of its orgamzatlon the mem bershxp fee was set at twenty iive cents for each student The students showed great mterest nn the orgamzatxon at that tlme and stxll do today At the present the class havmg the most members ln the orgamzatlon IS gxven twenty pomts towards the wmnmg of the Spmt Cup The next ln lme re celves fifteen pomts the next ten and the last five Each year thls Forenslc Assoclatxon elects oflicers to take charge of the buslness matters of the assoclatlon The electlon of officers IS accordlng to the COI'lStltlltl0D scheduled to take place ln May and the officers elected hold oflice untll the followlng May Th1s year due to an unmtentlonal overslght officers of the assoclatxon were not elected 1n May but were selected on February 8 The four orhcers selected were members or the champlonshlp debate team Wesley Calef was chosen presldent Arthur Palmer vlce president Alice Mae Zlemer was elected secretary and Ardell Roepke was chosen to act as treasurer The drlve for membershxp m the Forenslc Assocxatxon accordmgly began on Monday February 15 and was brought to a close the following Frlday noon The membershlp fee for the year was reduced to ten cents because the drlve was put on so late that the debate season had already closed Membershxp ln the Forenslc Assoclatlon perrmts a student to attend any of the forenslc contests held m the audltorlum of the school wlthout any further admlsslon fee The money collected Irom the drlve each year IS used to pay the expenses mvolved ln transportlng the schools representatives to other schools and towns to compete ln the varlous phases of forenslc work The result of this years drlve was below the average of prevlous vears only one class the Junlor recexved a one hundred per cent membershxp The re sults of the drlve and the number of polnts towards the Splrlt Cup each group re celved follows Junxors 100W 20 pomts Sophomores 50q 10 pomts SCDIOFS 83 Gfk 10 pomts Freshmen 33W 5 pomts 52 .-Y., J ,A Q rv' Y

The Bankmg Season N THE year 1926 the present system of school bankmg that lnaugurated by Thr1ft Incorporated was establxshed ID our school and was soon well supported ny a large majority of the students Each year the students reallzed more and more lts value and each year more students became followers of Thr1ft untll today we have approxlmately 840 pass books m our school As It IS a custom for each graduatlng class to present some glft to the school the Class of 1927 decided to g1ve a thrnft honor anard m memory of thelr own ex cellent work ln the bankmg svstem Thxs banner IS presented to the class whlch has received the hlghest percentage ln bankmg on each Bank Day of the year After hve successlve years the banner wxll be removed from competltlon The class hav mg the hxghest percentage recelves 1000 pomts the next 9:10 pomts the next 900 pomts and the last recelves 850 pomts From these pomts the number of wlth drawals are deducted and then the class havmg the largest number of polnts wms the banner In the year 1928 the Class of 1929 won the banner and aga1n ln 1929 the same class recelved It In 1930 the banner was won by the Class of 1933 who re captured it ln 1931 As the Classmate goes to press the Class of 1933 IS 1n the Class of 1932 IS next wlth 92 9 per cent and last but not least 15 the Class of 19 wlth a percentage of 91 8 At the close of the school year m June of 1931 there was about S8 029 42 on G9pOS1t Up to the date of March 22 there was S8 269 29 on hand Each year the varlous banks ln New London act as clearmg houses for the money Thxs year the Flrst Natlonal Bank has acted as the clearmg house A A Vorba xnstructor ln sclence has had charge of the bankmg work for the last three years He checks the deposlts takes the money to the bank and does the other necessary work connected wlth the bank ng actlvxty Mr Vorba nas shown a great deal of mterest 1n the thrlft work and has done a great deal to pro mote lt xn th1s school Just Reality ' Mr Calef ln economics class What klnd of economlc goods are thc goods on a shelf 1n a store Elleen Johnson They are consumers goods Fred Noack Thev are canned goods Models Don t Change B111 Sohrwelde ln Economlcs had a tooth PICK m hxs mouth as usual and Mr Koten asked hlm Is that the same tooth plck you had last week B11l'7 Whatf' No necktles' lNo socks Elroy Stern A valxse IS used. to carry order blanks and other valuable papers 1n 51 f ' Q T A ' I ' 7 J -X V X I, I I 159 ' S x, Q ' A 1, lead with a percentage of 99.4, the Class of 1934 follows with 94.1 per cent, and the ' ' ' . . 3 j fmxi K NEW 1 I LONDON 0 HIGH souoot Forenslc Contests 1932 Extemporaneous Speaking HERE were but Hve emors who slgned to enter into this phase of extra wo k They were Vtllham Sohrwelde Wesley Calef Arthur Palmer Irvm Demmmg and Edward Rebmau lour student were chosen to represent the school m that ph se of work ln state and conference contests Those placxng ln speaklng and who acted as representatives vuere Wesley Calef Wllllam Sohrwelde Ldward Rebman and Irvm Demmlng Extemporaneous Reading Fourteen gurls ansx ered to the call to take part nn extemporaneous readmg contests The Sophomore Class had the largest number of students represented lli the contest havmg ilve in the prehmmary try outs The Jumors had four the freshmen three and tle seniors two Elght partie pants entered the finals Those entering the finals were Annette Thomas Alice Zxemer Agnes McN1chols Louise Lemmmg Sarah Fl,nn Ceorglana Le Be u Marcella Barlow and Mary June Rlck aby From this group of eight students four were selected to represent the school in the state and conference contests Flrst place was awarded to Louise Demmmg second to Ahce Zlemer thlrd to Mary June Rlckaby and fourth to Georglana Le Beau Declamatory Twenty two students slgned to take part IH declamatory tryouts The four classes were well represented Members of the faculty acted as Judges and selectet A11 e Zlemer Ir1s Poehlman Beatrice Manske Sarah Haskell Louise Demmlng, Mary June Rlckaby Jeannette Knapsteln and Agnes McN1cho1s From th1s group four s udents were picked They were Beatrice Manske Agnes McN1chols Jeannet Knlpsteln and Ahce Zlemer Oratory Students wlshmg to take part ln tryouts ln oratory answered to a call issued February third for orators Eleven students entered mto this held of work The senlors had seven representatwes the Juniors one the sophomores two and the fresh men one From the group seven were selected to enter the finals They were Wesley Calef Wllham Sohrwelde Irvin Demmlng Arthur Palmer Merle Shepard Ahce Zlemer and Ardell Roepke From this group the following were plcked Flrst place went to Arthur Palmer second to Ardell Roepke third to Merle Shepard and fourth to Ahce Mae Ziemer On April 13 the students who had been chosen to represent the school in the state league forensic contest met representatives from MZFIOH Tlgerton Chnton V1119 and Shawano Two students represented New London in each of the contests In or'1L rv Arthur Palmer and Ardell Roepke were representatives IH declamatory Beatrice Manske and Jeannette Knapstein acted as representatives In extemporaneous read lng Ahce Mae Ziemer and Georglana Le Beau were entered and ln extemporaneous speaking Wesley Calef and Edward Rebman New London placed ln several of the events Al1ce Mae Zxemer was awarded first place IH extemporaneous readlng Beatrice Manske recelved second place ln declamatory and Jeannette Knapstem recexved fourth In oratory Arthur Palmer received thlrd place By wlnmng a first second thlrd and fourth place New Lon don won second place ln the meet Shawano received hrst Thlrd place went to C,l1ntonv1lle and fourth to Tlgerton The district contest was held at West De Pere First place wlnners only were entered Four schools were represented ln the Northeastern Conference prehmmary held at New London Thev were Shawano Neenah Menasha and New London Those who acted as representatives for New London were In oratory Merle Shephard and Ahce Zlemer in extemporaneous speaking William Sohrwelde and Irvm Demmmg in declamatory Agnes McN1chols and Ahce Zelmer in extemporaneous read mg Mary June Rxckaby and Louise Demmlng New London placed only one representatlve Agnes MCNlChO1S who received thlrd place ln declamatory 5.5 's 4 A 5 5 Y f I ' ' .7 0 v X V p l Q G 4 A W r-I1 v S ' v ' ' ' , 1. . eght students to enter into the final contest which was held April first.
