After Mr. Crock- ett made his annual speech in the auditorium we were assigned to our homerooms with Miss Raye Francis as the girls' sponsor and Miss Ruth Taylor as the boys' sponsor. Thus we began our high school life. We were all glad when initiation was over. We elected our class officers as follows: President, 1. C. Mclvorg Vice-President, Corretta Bolling, Secretary, Fred Overstreetg Treasurer, Laverge Padgettg Student Council member, Mary Witt. With much success we ended our Freshman year. Miss Irene Martin was our sponsor for our Sophomore year. This year we elected the following officers: President, J. C. Mclvor, Vice-President, Fred Overstreetg Secretary, Peggy Browng Treasurer, Lewis Coffeyg Student Council member, Rachel Ischer. Quite a few of our class left school this yearg some to be married while others Went to work. Our class was well represented in school activities and several of our members played on the basketball teams. We were all proud to be juniors in the year of 1948-49 and this year we looked forward to the junior-Senior Banquet and Dance. Everyone had a wonderful time, with the Lynch- burg College Band playing for the dance. The trip of the Junior Class to Lakeside was another outstanding event of the year. Mrs. Leatrice Cibes was our sponsor for the be- ginning of the year and after she left Mrs. William Lee became our sponsor. Again this year our class was well represented in the school clubs as well as in sports. Our class officers were: President, J. C. Mclvorg Vice-President, Peggy BrowngSecretary, Corretta Bollingg Treasurer, Joyce Wilsong Student Council member, Fred Overstreet. In September of 1949 we came back to school all proud to be Seniors even though it did mean that very soon we would graduate from high school and leave dear old New London. We were joined by several '49 graduates who retumed to N. L. A. to take post- graduate courses. Miss Dorothy Dancy was our Senior sponsor. We elected the following class officers: President, Mary Wittg Vice-President, Aubrey Whorleyg Secretary, Peggy Brown, Treasurer, Rachel Ischer. As usual our class members participated in all school activities and sports. Our senior play jane Eyre , directed by Mrs. H. S. Evans, was an outstanding occasion for us all. Another thing of which we were proud WGS the publiCati0n of our annual the Oaks . Of course not one of us missed the Senior Trip or the Junior-Senior Banquet and Dance at which we were guests this year. Thus with some studying and plenty of play and fun we ended our high school edu- cation. dlI 6.1-omni - Baca 3 o LL'iY' Ba 5 Came: had Qovv'v.TT IQT S'0YC,, . ,W I Q Fred 0' gda br A vmle Rv ber? SDQIQTS Sports at New London for this school term have gone along very smoothly. Both the boys' and the girls' basketball teams had full schedules for january and part of Feb- ruary. The girls' interest in sports this spring will probably center around volleyball and softball teams. Some of the girls will participate in school track events. The boys will, of course, be ready to win all the baseball games they have scheduled. The following players will return to the team this year: Phil Knight, Lewis Coffey, Earl Lindsay, Royal Padgett, Herbert Fielder, jimmy Hall and Roy Kimery. Quite a few posi- tions are left open to other boys who will be interested in playing this year. The boys will also have a track team this spring.
