It started with the annual Kick-Off Dance after the first home football game. Also during football season, the girls sold sweat shirts, pennants, orange and black shakers, and programs at the games. During basketball season, the G.A.A. again sponsored a girls' basketball team which played teams from other high schools. All during the year, girls participated in volleyball, basketball, bowling, and ping-pong intramurals held during noon hour and after school. The G.A.A. is under the direction of Mrs. Judith Hirsch. Awards are given for points which are obtained by participating in the different activities. New officers are elected each year. The Panthonian, the New Lexington High School publication, is a mimeographed newspaper. It is published every three weeks by a voluntary staff. Through advertisements and sales, the Panthonian is completely self-supporting. As a member of the National Scholastic Press Association, the Panthonian received the second highest honor rating for the first semester's publications, The faculty advisor is Mr. William Weaver and the editor is Mick McBee. To more completely and comprehensively cover the news around the school and in the outside world this school year, the Panthonian was expanded from eight to ten pages. The putting together of a 130 page book covering an entire school year is not an easy job. It requires much advanced planning and hard work. This year's staff, under the direction of Mr. John Neff, was well trained to accomplish this. Editor, David Owen, business managers, John Ryan and Jim Neff, and their staffs worked long hours to make this year's book a success. Under their direction pictures were taken, copy written and edited, pages were layed out, ads obtained, and the book finally sent to the publishers. The junior editor, Kathe Jenkins, and junior business manager, Dick Newlon, received valuable training to help them next year. 75 SPORTS The thrill of that winning touchdown, the excitement of that last-second shot--all were a part of the varied athletic activity of New Lexington High School in 1964. Coach Rockwell's hopes were high. At the opening of the season, the Orange and Black loomed as a top contender for the M.V.L. crown. Since running forms the basis for all athletics, the sport of track is very important. The big accomplishments of the 1963 season were the winning of the third M.V.L.
