We have tried to bring out the events of each class so that YOU, as a freshman, sophomore, or junior will treasure this annual as much as we, who are in our last year here, will do. As you turn the pages, you will find memories of that special dance, that game which was decided in the last few seconds, the organizations of which you are a part, the frantic rush to lunch, and above all, you will find that which can never be hidden—The True Spirit of N. L. H. S. Respectfully yours, 3 Junior-Senior Prom 1959 The theme of our prom, Oriental Gardens, was carried out to perfection with dragons, a temple, and a lovely oriental garden scene which completed the setting. An original sampan boat was the center of attraction with the Darrel Davis Band seated in the bow. Colorful oriental lanterns added to the oriental atmosphere. All couples arrived in evening dress, were met at the door by a lovely oriental lady, then proceeded through beaded curtains down a flower-covered stairway to the di mly lighted dance floor. There to one's surprise was a large dragon with a flaming tongue. At the far end of the gym was a huge mural depicting a Japanese garden. The beauty of this scene was enhanced by the use of black light. Several feature selections by the band were enjoyed by everyone. 4 Superintendent Myron F. Fowler Principal Linton D. Lewis MR. There were a few new students from out of town, but the majority of us had been here through our junior high days. Our advisors were Miss Book and Mr. Priode. The class elected Mike Holden, president. Jean Patterson, Linda Lewis, Joy Puterbaugh and Connie Anderson were class officers and student council members respectively. Then came our sophomore year. Bill Kirkbride was elected president of our class that year, and Linda Lewis, Rodney Lacey, and Janet Patterson were his assisting officers. Jo Puterbaugh, Mary Hammond, and Paul Metzger represented us on the student council. Beverly Lescallette was chosen queen's attendant. Our class projects for that year consisted of a dance and a bake sale. In 1957-58 we realized the importance of our class, as we had members participating in band, glee club, football, basketball, and all four of the reserve cheerleaders were sophomores. As we entered N. L. H. S. in the fall of 1958, we could hardly believe we were juniors. But as the hard work began, we became well aware of the fact. Our advisors for our junior year were Mr. Neff and Mr. Martin. Donald Denny was elected president. Other class officers were: Karen Fealty, Bill Kirkbride and Jo Puterbaugh. Joy Puterbaugh and Beverly Lescallette were on the student council. We elected Kathy Wiseman our queen's attendant that year. Four of the juniors were initiated to the National Honor Society. They were: Donald Denny, Mike Holden, Karen Fealty, and Linda Lewis. The closing projects of our junior year were the Junior-Senior Banquet and the Junior-Senior Prom which we think were both very successful. Finally, we reached our senior year. Mr. Neff and Mr. Laswell were our advisors. Again Donald Denny was elected our class president. Beverly Lescallette, Joy Puterbuagh and Jack Cheney were also officers. Student Council members were Joy Puterbaugh and Linda Lewis. We elected Karen Fealty to the gracious position of Homecoming Queen and Jo Puterbaugh was senior attendant. Five of our members were initiated to the National Honor Society. They were: Cherie Edwards, Beverly Lescallette, Judy Breese, Sue Rockwell, and Don Ice. The last project of our senior year was the presentation of the 1960 Lexingtonian. As the last days of our high school classes die away, we shall take with us many happy and never-to-be forgotten memories. 23 • ■ft Junior Class LEFT TO RIGHT: Marilyn Bailey, Bill Dobbins, Sharon Baize, David Dickson, Sandra Canniff, Nancy Cable. They ended the season with a league record of only 2 wins and 6 losses. By looking at this record, one might forget the time and practice the boys put in. They forget the anxious moments, the good sportsmanship which was displayed, and the attempts for victory. There will be better years, and there may be worse, but one should remember that winning is not the ultimate goal in sports. The virtues of sportsmanship, leadership, and perseverance acquired in participation in this sport will endure a lifetime. The student council of New Lexington High School is a member of the National Association of Student Councils. The students, who were chosen to represent their classes, had a good many different jobs. They collected clothing for the World Clothing week, and money for the Heart Fund. During the football season they had the stands at the Glouster game. They also sponsored the homecoming ceremony along with the purchasing of flowers for the queen and her attendants. The student council had one basketball stand, in addition to the coat check at all home games. The members ended their year in a pleasant trip and program which were selected by the members.
