MEMOIR CLASS HISTORY We, the Class of 1953, entered New Knoxville High School as bold, green freshmen on September 6, 1949. High school life seemed much different at first but we soon adjusted ourselves as we took part in many activities. We began the year with sixteen boys and eight girls-a total of twenty-four. We had ten boys out for basketball and eleven for baseball. Our class was quite musical, too, with nine band members and thirteen in the chorus. At the end of the year, we lost Kermit Miller, who found other interests. We returned to school as sophomores in the fall of 1950, with twenty- three members. We had nine members in the band and our chorus member- ship increased to fifteen. Meanwhile, six boys remained out for basketball and eleven for baseball. Three of our girls were elected cheerleaders during the basketball season. In the fall of 1951, we began our junior year with the same members that finished the previous year. During the year we lost Harold Moellenkamp who found interests elsewhere. We were all very proud when we received our class rings. On October 19th, our class presented the play Great Scotts , which was a great success. On May 9, 1952, the junior-Senior reception in honor of the Class of 1952 was given by us. Our class remained well represented in the band, chorus, and sports. We had two cheerleaders and a basketball manager from our class. We began the last year of our high school education as dignified seniors on September 2, 1952. Our membership was reduced to twenty-one, having lost one member, who was not promoted with us at the close of the junior year. W'e again took part in many extra-curricular activities. On March 27, we successfully presented our Senior Class play, Beauty and the Beef , before a large audience. We were the honored guests of the junior-Senior reception, sponsored by the class of 1954. We will long remember and cherish in our memory the week of May 17, 1953, as the beginning and end of our graduation exercises. Eighteen
