Katterheinrich, our advisor, deeply appreciate the kindness shown us and the aid given us by the families of our school district and the business men of New Knoxville and surrounding cities. We feel that the two slogans which adorn our school building, Enter to Learng Go Forth to Serve and Religion and Educationg Safeguard a Nation , have become a part of us, and that we, as we graduate and take a more vital and active part in the community and world, may represent all those things which are good and helpful to mankind. May we take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you. We hope that this book will vividly portray the many class and extra-curricular activities of our school. This class consisted of twenty-two members, twelve boys and ten girls. Our class was well represented in sports. Six of the boys were out for both baseball and basketball. In the other activities we had thirteen pupils in the chorus and five members in the band. The two flag bearers were also from our class. In our freshman year we lost several members, Morris Leffel moved to Wapakoneta and Clyde McCune found a job somewhere else. Susan Lee joined our class entering New Knoxville from Beaverdam. We came back to school in the fall of 1948 as sophomores, with a class of twenty members, ten boys and ten girls. We had five members in the band and thirteen in the chorus. Five of the ten boys played basketball and five came out for baseball. In our sophomore year we lost two members, Susan Lee moved to Spencerville and Paul Zwiebel found a job and left school. In our junior year our class still had twenty members, however there were nine boys and eleven girls. jacqualin Hole moved in from Wapakoneta, and Kay Bilger came from Versailles. We had five members in the band, and eleven in the chorus. One of our girls became a cheerleader. We received our class rings of which we were all very proud. We also presented the junior Class Play, We Shook the Family Tree,', which was a great success. We sponsored the junior-Senior Reception, which was one of the outstanding events of the year. In the fall of 1950 we entered school as sophisticated seniors. W'e were about as well represented in basketball and baseball as in the previous years. Two class members were cheerleaders this year. W'e had six members in the chorus and five members in the band. Eunice Stienecker found a job elsewhere and Kay Bilger re-entered her class in Versailles. We presented our Senior Class Play, It's a Great Life, which was a great success. We will long remember and cherish the week of May 15, 1951 as the beginning and end of our graduation. 18 IOR . New Knoxville started the season well, winning their first three games by large margins. After two defeats they won their next game, a real thriller, in an overtime from New Bremen. The Rangers then lost to Minster and the Merczr County champions Ft. Recovery. Waynesfield was next defeated by New Knoxville by a two paint margin. Then followed the longest losing streak of the season consisting of four games. The Rangers made a comeback by defeating Buckland and the Shelby County league lead- ing Botkins team in their next two contests. The Rangers did their bit for the polio drive by traveling to Sidney to play the Holy Angels in a benefit game. The Rangers came out on the short end of the score but it was for a good cause. New Knoxville finished the season with a victory over New Bremen giving them a total of eight victories, which is three more than they were able to achieve last year. LEAGUE SEASON The Rangers won three of their five league games this season. New Knoxville won their game with Buckland easily, but had more troub'e with New Bremen and Waynesfield, winning each game by two points, the New Bremen contest being an overtime game. - f '7'v3 -fs' X- 1- Minster and Cridersville had too much height and scoring punch for the Rangers. With a little help from Waynesfield in upsetting Minster the Rangers were able to finish the league season in a tie for second place with Minster and Waynesfield. AUGLAIZE COUNTY TOURNAMENT The New Knoxville Rangers drew Cridersville, county league winner, in the opening game of the Auglaize County tournament. Cridersville had lost only one game all season and New Knoxville was given little chance of upsetting the Rams. However, the Rangers came out with a will to win and kept the score very close for three quarters. The Rangers were trailing by only four points at the half, but Cridersville forged ahead in the closing minutes of the game winning by a score of 67 to 54. Three Ranger seniors, Frederick Cook, james DuBois and Vernon Henkener played their last games for New Knoxville and will join the host of lettermen who have graduated from New Knoxville High School. 63 GRADUATING LETTERMEN Frederick Cook james DuBois Guard Center ,Nadi gf' Robert Schroer Vernon Henkener Vernon Henkener First Base Forward Outfield Frederick Cook james DuBois Pitcher Third Base 64 BASKETBALL CLIPPINGS New Knoxville f2ff1.,'ff2 f:s'IIZ.IfZ'1ljl5WxKnofivilg Rin lgnvxvlillg Rixrwers Wig Ighgir. - 9233.6 i?,!f2.2L':f.i, 0 nnn n OS Q came ea 0 nes me gfunH:1:y,Y T I Y Y ilu Basketball ' ,, ZQ 'fc'mg The New 4Knoxvme Rnrlgvrs WO Pointsg Reserves Win, sxlflx 2 lost tn Anna m basketbail wxth n, . , .. f ' V t 54 on Saturdzax , 75 1 snare of 48 u I . The New Knoxville Rangers played six gimes during the 1950 fall season A rebuilding job was in order during these games as three graduating seniors had to be replaced. In ad- dition to graduation the Rangers veteran battery was not available because Cook did not enter school until late and Wierwille did not play regularly because of after school employment. A fine group of sophomores eased the situation somewhat and New Knoxville managed to win two of their six games. Steady improvement could be noted as valuable experience was gained with each successive contest. The Rangers defeated Cridersville and Buckland while losing to New Bremen, Cridersville and Anna. New Knoxville hit the peak of the fall season by defeating Cridersville in a no hit no run game 8 to 0 in the only game they were at full strength. 66 1950 Fall Players Averages PLAYERS POS. The steady improvement shown last fall by the sophomores and the return of all the experienced veterans are pointing to a successful season. The ability of Cook and Wierwille as a seasoned battery and the balance acquired last fall by the remainder of the squad to back them up should make them one of the favorite teams in Auglaize County. Their immediate aim will be to get back their fielding sharpness and hitting ability and ready themselves for the Auglaize County tourna- Ifleflf. FRESHMEN BASEBALL PLAYERS Six young, but ambitious, freshmen came out for baseball practice in the fall of 1950. With the return of a few varsity veterans and a large number of sophomores, this group of fresh- men had little chance of breaking into the regular lineup. Continued practice in the field and at bat has helped them considerably to improve them- selves as the weeks went by. Learning the rules cf baseball and the finer points of the game may ultimately land them a spot on the varsity squad. They won fourteen games while losing only three. The Ranger reserves started the season with a win and kept adding to it until they had achieved ten consecutive victories. Shawnee defeated the Rangers by a close margin 57 to 34. The reserves also fell victim to Cridersville and an undefeated Lima St. Rose team. The reserve squad consisted of nine freshmen, five sophomores, and one junior. One fresh- man, two sophomores, and the junior were also on the varsity squad. The reserve team played good ball, improving steadily as the season moved along and should strengthen the next years' varsity considerably as they replace the graduating seniors. 1950 - 1951 RECORD New Knoxville ......
