Averett. For your inspiration in giving New Kent an opportunity to increase its knowledge and appreciation for mathematics, science, and sports; for the unceasing support you have given us when our courage failed; for your outstanding capabilities in coaching and your ever present sense of humor; we feel we have been fortunate to have had the privilege of having you as our teacher, coach, and friend. We certainly express our appreciation. 9n Item onam C 3etty Jean Gfienauft As we remember the many activities and friends of our school days at New Kent High School, we also pause to remember one who, al¬ though she is no longer with us, will not be for¬ gotten. ’’The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Psalm 121: 7-8 5 MRS. CHARLES N. ROBERTS The annual staff of the 1967 CAVALIER is extremely grateful for her encouragement and enthusiasm at the times when our zeal was gone. She has helped to make our work enjoyable, and we trust that this volume will be as much a source of pride to her as it is to us. 6 Diane Duckworth Business Manager Susan Sowder Editor Mrs. Roberts Sponsor Susan Sowder.Editor Kay Swindell .Assistant Editor Diane Duckworth.Business Manager JoAnne Burnette.Artist Brenda Cheatham.Typist Mary Beth Luce.Typist Mrs. Roberts.Sponsor 7 The night has a thousand eyes, And the day but one; Yet the light of the bright world dies With the dying sun. The mind has a thousand eyes, And the heart but one; Yet the light of a whole life dies When love is done. Francis William Bourdillon As teachers we think of, among our other important duties in school, those of assisting our young people to become enriched in knowledge and trained in skills which are to be their guiding points throughout life. When the school years have passed and the students have shared certain learning experi¬ ences and abilities with their teachers and have complied with other requirements, they depart with a document indicating the staisfactory completion of a number of years and of certain sub¬ jects. This is, by far, not enough—for aside from these achievements there is another kind of learning which is of greater virtue than all others—the love and appreciation for continued learn¬ ing of the many riches which are necessary for a full and happy life. Among these is the love for the beauty of the wonders and mysteries of nature around us, the love for the beauty of the sound of music, the pictures of color, the understanding of the great thoughts in literature; and still more important than these values is the love for those around us, expressed by kindness, friendship, understanding and respect. The values of love are the basic foundation in our learning and should be manifold in daily action by the dedicated teacher and the understanding student. 8 Principal 0 O y ou Rememoer . . .
