CUSS HISTORY One bright sunny morning in September 1943, thirteen bright-eyed boys and girls of the present Senior class gathered in the first grade room of New Kent High School. Mrs. Dixon welcomed the group. We found it easy since we were allowed to rest on rugs every day. We all survived our first year c ;nd went back as second graders. Here we gained Charles Mihalcoe. Several teachers well prepared us for the third grade and happily sent us to Mrs. Perry. In the fourth grade Miss Christian taught us our multiplication tables. Upon entering the fifth grade, Mrs. Wuldrop took us on our first class trip to Williamsburg. The sixth year brought Doris Parsley, Miron Mihalcoe, and Calvin Smith to our class under Mrs. Brightwell. Mrs. Orange took us on our annual class trip to Richmond in the seventh grade. Here we gained Sherman McLaughlin, Kent Renalds, Eddie Smiley, and Drexel Crump. In the eighth grade we explored the field of science with experiments in the laboratory under Mrs. Reed. Cecil Goodman joined us. In our Freshman year under Mrs. Richmond’s leadership, we learned that in high school everyone cares about only himself and we must do all we can to aggravate the teachers. We went to Richmond and tourned Byrd Airport and WRNL Studio. Mr. Waldrop had the responsibility of being our homeroom teacher in the tenth grade. James Dinwiddie became a member of our class during the second high school year. With half of our high school days behind, the Junior year was filled with much excitement. Mr. and Mrs. Mears sponsored our Junior play House of Strangeness, which was a big success. We attempted our first formal Junior and Senior Banquet and Prom. After receiving our school rings we realized that finally we were ready to become dignified Seniors. Mr. Waldrop again was our sponsor. Now that we were at last at the goal of every school student we look back upon our happy experiences of the past and realize with regret that our school days are rapidly coming to an end. This year has been quite busy. With Mr. Alexander as our sponsor, we welcomed Eddie Watkins. To raise money we had a concession stand at the football games and presented the Senior play, Shoot the Works. The Senior class was honored with a Banquet and Prom. On our class trip we went to New York City for a week-end. Into these past nine months along with all our other ac¬ tivities we did put in a little studying. We all will always remember our dear ole days at New Kent High School and as a remembrance of us, we leave a trophy case.
