To think about the career possibilities of my fellow classmen is still more interesting be¬ cause it involves each one of us personally. A. C. Frame, having more interest in machinery than in skirts, will have himself surrounded with tractors, combines, cattle and grain, on the most modern farm in New Kent County. Andrew, well all that brass and braid he hopes to wear at our class reunion in 1965, Oh well, Colonel, how are you? Cornelia, after making the highest record in the history of Smithdeal-Massey Business College, took over as head instructor of typing and shorthand at the same institution. Jeanne, after a career in the Wacs, would like to have a cozy little home and family, best wishes, Jeanne, to all seven of you. Eleanor, who has been so unselfish and so helpful to all in high school, would like to have her own Orthopedic Hospital--with this motto over the door “Free Hospitalization to all needy people.” Robert, a Domestic Relations lawyer promises to give his classmates free legal service if any should find the road of matrimony too burdensome. June, will be located in the offices of the C. and P. Telephone Company as chief typist. Nan, who changes her mind frequently on love matters as well as vocational matters, says she will let the world know when she makes up his mind. Anne, just imagine itl Will spend 4 years at Baylor University and then who do you thinkKay Kyser chose as his chief vocalist--one guess. Elsie, all that acting she has been doing in our school plays really made up her mind for her and well, she became head of the dramatics department for the College of William and Mary. AT OUR SCHOOL The buildings are the finest, The students are the kindest; The voices are the sweetest. The teachers are the neatest, At our school. The skies are the bluest. The friends are the truest; The grass is the greenest, The children are the keenest, At our school. No one is the meanest, Anne is the neatest; Elsie is the queenest, And A. C. is the leanest, At our school. Winston is the funniest, Cornelia is the cunningest; Jane is the blondest. And Jeanne is the fondest. At our school. The Seniors are the fewest. The Juniors are doest; The Freshmen are the keenest And the Eighth Grade is the greene At our School. The songs are the peppiest, The cheers are the heppiest; The teams are the luckiest, The ball ground is the muckiest. At our school. The lessons are the tightest Work done is the slightest; Play time is the handiest. Holidays are the dandiest,. At our school. THE GREAT ADVENTURE Senior Class Poem By Nan Watkins Our school days ended, life before us lies- A great adventure. Cloudless are the skies; Now time seems but a slave to do our will; Endless to-morrows that with job we fill. Down unknown trails we’ll journey far and free And find the spring-green road to Arcade; But never, never lonely shall we fare, For you’ll be in our dreaming everywhere. The thoughts of school shall with us always be; A true companion--happy memory. Oh, may we dare to dream and dare to do, Loving the truth, and to ourselves be true. May we so work and live through all our days That friends may love us, honest men may praise. Of each misfortune make a sword to slay The dragon worries that obstruct our way. | With heart that’s strong to fight and never win May we not falter when the storms begin; For only fools contentment find and keep. To him who would achieve, the road is steep. The summit’s ever farther on the way And glory’s but a sunbeam, soon to stray Still we must struggle till the day is gone And look across the purple hills to dawn. Be faithful to our work, respect its call. And find it not too great nor yet too small; Each task a blessing and for us the best; We’ll do it well and leave to God the rest. With Robert Parsley, Andrew Mihalcoe and Winston Via as veterans in the backfield, it wasn’t long before a fast, tricky and smooth- operating team was developed. The first game of the season with Achilles was close, although they were a much heavier team. Achilles won, 31-27. The second game was against West Point at night. The lights proved to be a handicap, and New Kent lost again, 25-20. The third game turned the tide. Playing Botetourt, and inexperienced team, the New Kenters easily won, 62-12. V In the return game with West Point, which was played at New Kent, the New Kent Team completely outclassed the visitors to the tune of 44-14. The second game with Botetourt gave New Kent its third victory. Played on a very muddy field, the game was extremely slow; and the final score was New Kent 30; Botetourt 6. The return game with Achilles at Achilles was a heartbreaker, Achilles won 64 to 14. The final game a single meeting, was against Christ Church. The kicking for extra points after touchdowns gave the prep school a close win by the score of 30-25. Although New Kent won only three of its seven scheduled games, it piled up a total of two-hundred twenty-two points during the season to one-hundred eighty- two for its opportunity opponents. The leading scorers and their total number of points are: Andrew Mihalcoe, fifty-seven; Robert Parsley, Fifty; and Winston Via, forty-nine. The baseball team expect to schedule eight games for the 1949 season. Cecil Bowery, playing for the first time, is expected to render valuable assistance as a pitcher. Robert Parsley is expected to perform in his usual fine manner at third base. Winston Via will distribute his talents between first base and pitching. Andrew Mihalcoe is a good athlete and will be valuable in the out¬ field. On the whole the prospects for the coming season are excellent. A. C.
