Membership, as in any ot Ken l-li's musical organizations, is open to any student with musical talent and ability to pass a demonstration try-out. Mr. Gregory con- ducted the latter, with each applicant tor a position playing various selections on his instrument. Atter the corny ones had been weeded out, Mr. Gregory im- mediately undertook to mold the torty-tour remaining play- ers into a group ot competent musicians. Soon, with Millie Del.uca as drum maior, the band became the tamiliar her- ald ot the Flying Dutchman's approach, and demonstrated many intricate maneuvers be- tween the halves ot numerous tootball games. The arrival ot the winter months meant many busy nights tor the band, be- cause basketball season was in tull swing. Part ot the basket- ball team's success should be attributed to the 'tight' songs f- ISO! Charles l-logg, Lynn Long and Paul Zender, who play the sax and double on the licorice stick. Dick Brown, Merle Ruppel and Mike Sluser swing sweet and hot in the trumpet section, and Americus Bruno accompanies with occasional booms on the old bass viol. While Tom Hanna hammers the hides and keeps rhythm in the tamily, Martin Brill and Dave Seesholtz keep the slush pumps well lub- ricated.
