All the World's a Stage mational fl-lzespians Try-outs! Try- outs To-night I was the cry heard early last tall. The National Thespians, in coniunction with the Dramatic Club, were beginning the activities ot the year by selecting new members. The Dramatic Club, which endeavors to promote an intelligent and act- ive interest in dramatics, received its charter to become Troupe I4 ot the National Thespians in 1935. Members ot The Dramatic Club attain the distinction ot being Thespians by participating in a .qpebafe since Tis organization in 1937, the Debating Club has grown into one ot the lead- ing activities ot New Kensington High School. The ardent debaters have enjoyed many an evening, Resolved, That .... required number ot plays and by going Through a trying initiation. At The regular meetings Two one-act plays are given and guest speakers are pre- sented to The members. The Thespians sponsored The Christmas assembly and The exchange programs with Vandergritt, presented to The public Apron String Revolt, a three-act comedy and highlight ot the dramatic year aT Ken l'-li, and co-operated with The seniors in staging Their annual class play. The semi-private dance was an outstanding event. during which They were driven to Trenzy by The heat ot argument. Usually The Tirst number on The pro- gram is a scrap and The second scrapping. Scrap number one takes The torm ot a debate. These debates are very interesting, perhaps not so much to The victims ot The speakers as to The speakers Themselves. A great deal ot valuable train- ing is derived trom these small debates, such as learning to talk betore an audience, how to present an argument, and countless other things That cannot be set down in black and white. The scrapping as- sumes the Torm ot rebuttals. lt occasionally happens that the speakers etticiently ex- tinguish Themselves, showing clearly how much they do not know about their topic. T711
