Newark in 1970 is a beleaguered city, full of allegations and accusations toward its political leaders and police, distrusted by The Black maiority, despaired by the White minority, and despised by Those who must work in it or travel Through it daily. Yet Newark is where the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry decided to resettle during 1967. This decision was not welcomed by all and has been listed as a contributory factor in The July 1967 riots. The Medical School is attempting to grow and improve in a city considered by some to be beyond repair. Yet the losers in all the political double-talk and despair are the resi- dents of Newark.
