Mr. Frank Burgess, also new in the department, taught Alabama history and current events. Mr. William Benson Miss Eleanor Smithers .u no Mrs. Jimmie Ruth Richard Mrs. Judy Tipton This year the Math Department acquired two new teachers. To begin, Mrs. Judy Tipton joined Miss Elear Smithers and Mr. William Benson. These three teachers stressed computation more than in the past. At the beginning of the second semester Mrs. Tipton left because of matemal reasons. She was replaced Mrs. Jimmie Ruth Richard.

Q Mrs. Mildred Brawley Mrs. Rosa Kent .1 I v Mrs. Jane Moon f Mrs. Mayme Harp The Language Arts students, after mastering their grammar, gained experience in creative writing, form composition, and literary interpretation. Ninth and tenth graders concentrated on improving their grammar skills, while Juniors and Seniors worked American and English literature. Mrs. Kent's Spanish students heard informal speeches on Spanish cultures , engaged in conversational Spanisl and enjoyed the annual lunch at El Palacio . Mrs. Brawley's journalism class learned the basic principles and rules for all type of writing. In addition completing a regular classroom curriculum , the students produced the school newspaper and yearbook. All the Language classes used filmstrips, recordings, and the library in collecting the material necessary f their studies. Teaching in the department this year were Mrs. Harp, Mrs. Kent, Mrs. Moon, and Mrs. Brawley.
