Siudenis Have Successful Year Mrs. Aleen Morrow Mrs. Peggy Burgess The special education students had a successful year completing a curriculum which stressed citi- zenship and responsibility. The classes took part in many projects and field trips including a tour of the New Hope City Hall to learn about the voting procedure. Among the projects the students enjoyed were growing home gardens and making holiday Christmas ornaments. Special education instructors this year were Mrs. Morrow, Mrs. Burgess, and Mrs. Neuendorf. Mrs. Nancy Neuendorf and Allen Teach Reading Elementary students partici- pating in the Title I reading pro- gram were taught by Mrs. Flo- rance Allen and Middle School students were tauht by Mrs. Christine Kirby. Title I students sharpened their reading skills and increased their reading rates, vocabularies, and study skills through various exer- cises, programmed materials, library books , periodicals , plays, poetry, and dramatiza- tions. 'Qian Miss Elizabeth Carpenter Mrs . Tommie lean Watts braries Provide Wealih of Information Mrs. Mary Beth Duncan This year in the libraries students found a wealth of information which included that in books and on records, tapes, filmstrips, pictures, and maps. Miss Carpenter again served as high school librar- ian. Mrs. Duncan, elementary librarian, and Mrs. Watts, librarian aid, were added to this year's staff. Builer Evaluaies Qiudeni Drivers Mr. John Butler, driving instructor, conducted ivers Education classes this year. The students not only took part in replay and reac- n drills in the classroom but also were evaluated their concentration, observation, and alertness in iving conditions. 3 Mr . Paul Maupin Mr . John Butler Maupin lnsirucis Music Mr. Paul Maupin taught public school music to fifth and sixth grade students. He was also responsible for directing the high school, middle school, beginner, marching, and concert bands .

First Graders Learn Important Skills Mrs . Frances Edmonds Mrs . Odena Wright The first grade instructors this year were Mrs. McGraw, Mrs. Edmond, and Mrs. Wright. In the reading program , teachers used team teach- ing and leveling to provide greater opportunities for individualized instruction with particular emphasis being placed on phonics. One of the advantages of individual instruction is that each student is able to progress at his own speed. In addition, reading, writing, and math were emphasized. Mrs . Hodie McCraw
