It all started when nme gxrls and boys went to school for the fxrst trme m 1937 A D They seemed to be as happy as they are today The New Holland Grade School doors were open and m came Norma Bartman, Sandra McNe1l, Robert Petmtt, Arvm Lee Schroeder, Emmett Huffman, Dons Jean Behrens, Edward Mangold, W1ll1am LaForge, and Wayne LaForge Thexr frrst and second grade teacher was Mxss Stone There was a swxtch the thrrd year when Edward Goad took Edward Mangold s place Mlss Zxmmerman was thelr teacher 1n the thmrd and fourth years The fourth year they gamed a member by the name of Mary Jones Durmg the fxfth year course, Mlss Stone was therr teacher agam Mary Jones and then good fnend Arvm Lee Schroeder moved away In the slxth Year they moved to the upper room where Mrs Deacon was the1r teacher the last three years In the s1xth grade, Irma Utech jomed them and they lost Dons Jean Behrens The seventh year they gaxned that old joker, Don Maaks, from Rosedale, but lost Edward Goad UI the sprmg because he moved to a suburb of New Holland wh1ch they call Lmcoln The last year they were Jomed by Dale Blaum and John Bracey Irma Utech was forced to leave school because of severe burns In the freshman class, Norma Bartrnan Sandra McNe1l Robert Pet1tt, Donald Maaks, Dale Blaum, John Bracey, and the LaForge brothers were Jomed by Wmlma Gehrke Dons Behrens, Norma Juhl Charles Podbelsek, Robert Ger1ets and B111 Danley all from the vanous rural schools The smrlmg Mxss Baker was thexr sponsor They had a Valentme dance whlch was a great success It added money to therr empty treasury Durmg the course of summer vacat1on, they lost Dons Behrens The sophomore year, they had Mr Waldrlp for then sponsor The Junxor year, they had to work so they could put on a Jumor Sen1or Prom wh1ch was a wonderful success because of the teamwork between the students of the class and the coachwork thexr sponsor, Mrs Brandt gave them They presented the l1vely play Ab1ga1l Goes I-laywxre, and Mxss Alexander was then dmrector Startmg the last but not least year, they were Jomed by happy Nancy Prerce They now had fwe beautiful g1rls and nxne handsome boys to graduate from good old N H C H S The semor year Mr Van Huss and Mr Waldrxp were thelr sponsors Wlth the great help of Mrs Snuth they are trymg to put out a yearbook that wzll please everyone When they looked back 1n the fxrst grade records, they saw that there were hve students who went through twelve years of school together Namely they are Norma Bartman Sandra McNe1l, Robert Petxtt and of course, the LaForge twms As we close the history of Class 1949 we hope we have told the correct statements that you may remember mn years to come 14 l , - - u - - so - n - . . . . . . .
