He became a member of the coaching staff and was a Senior Shop instructor. He served the past four years as business sponsor of the Mirage and contributed much to the success of this book. Not only was he respected by the teaching staff and stu- dent body but all people with whom he came into contact were influenced by his sincerity and true understanding of the importance of an individual. He shall always be remembered for his kindness, cheer- fulness, and friendship. Norman Moser (June 13, 1910 - March 17, 1962) Alan Riedel came to New Haven in 1957 from James Smart School in the seventh grade. During his school days his friendly attitude, even temper, and winning smile made many friends for him. His keen devo- tion to athletics earned for him a regular position as tackle on two conference cham- pionship football teams. He was awarded a letterman ' s jacket in 1960. Memories of Alan will long live in the hearts of New Haven high school -students and faculty. As the years go by we will always remember the places we have gone and the faces that meant so much to us. We will remember the places where we attended those exciting games, dances, and parties. There will be the familiar faces of our teachers, classmates, acquaintances, and, of course, that special someone. Each place will contain memories and each face a pleasant association. Our school is made up of many places — halls, classrooms, offices, the cafeteria, the gyms, and above all, people. These are the things that make New Wauew Wigk Cd mb special to us. School life actually begins at the age of six, but to us here at New Haven High it begins at 8:05 a.m. Each student has five classes a day plus time for lunch. Each class is seventy minutes long, with a five-minute break between classes. There are 45 teachers on the staff to teach 1,168 students. We also have three guidance counselors to help us with college, job, or personal problems. Our school offers the usual subjects and has some of the best-equipped classrooms in the state of Indiana. We study hard and long hours each day,- however, we are also offered a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Health and safety is important to each and every person in every walk of life. Many lives could be saved each day if everyone observed our health and safety rules. Art involves the skill of the hand, eye, and mind. It is the ability of the artist to express on paper what he visualizes and its effect on him. An artist ' s personality can be seen in his work. In music, as in art, a person is enabled to express his feelings. This can be accomplished through verbal actions and the type of music preferred by the person. Our steps are unsure, but our goal is the same — gradua- tion. As Freshmen we seem to be at the bottom of the heap, but as each year passes, we progress closer and closer to that goal. As Freshmen and Sophomores we are more or less getting introduced to everything. We participate in all the yearly activities. We enjoy the companionship of friends and teachers, the fun of parties and dances, and the excitement of ballgames. As Juniors we find ourselves in the middle of many activities. We enjoy the same things we did the year before, but there is one big added attraction, the Junior-Senior Prom. The Juniors finance and plan the prom, which creates one of the big excitements in high school. The last year sees you pass by as dignified Seniors. You are on the top of the heap and always thinking of graduation. Upon graduation you are faced by the big cruel world. Each of us enter our particular ambition, whether it be college, a job, or marriage. Each graduate of New Uomnj Wigk QdvocQ; is considered a superior one. Members of the different teams work hard to receive their letters and jackets. Another honor often received by New Haven athletes is scholarships. New Haven High School offers a wide variety of sports. Included in our sports program are cross country, wrestling, football, basketball, track, and baseball. Behind every team there is a need for school spirit and enthusi- asm to pave the way to victory. The school spirit of New Utatov Utyh Qckoob is radiated through the student body. Judith Thompson Carolyn Heckler Editor ■■■■Business Manager The year ' 62 brought many more changes in the Mirage. The use of more pages and larger pictures is the most noticeable change. Among the more important features, is the added attraction of an index and double division pages. ' These along with the cover and theme have given this year ' s annual a much more enchanting and desirable appearance. The staff has worked hard to better the book for you, the students of New Haven High School. Each member has gained experience long to be remembered. Now that all deadline worries have passed, we would like to thank our advisors and patrons for their help in preparing this annual.
