Judith Whitelock. Row Three: Mary Miller, Phyllis Bookout, James Burkett, Carolyn Hankel, Don Whitacre. Calvin Springer, Bruce Bone, Sylvan Young, JoAnn Elson, Rob- ert McCormick, Kent Murphy, Jack Whitacre, Beth Parent. The Concert Band. under the direction of Mr. Richard Guthier, is a busy or- ganization from the opening time of school until the last day. The band has thirty- nine members. During the fall the band marched at football games and participated in a marching contest at Auburn. Several trophies were won including the sweepstakes, inspection and first place in their division. The activities of the winter included playirg at basketball games and pep sessions. On February 9 the annual district solo and ensemble contest was held in Fort Wayne. Eleven solos and ensembles participated in the state contest at Butler University on February 23. The band also appeared in the district band contest in the spring. As is the custom, the band presented their annual winter and spring concert and took part in the Commencement exercises on May 23.
