The Masque and Gavel Society was granted a charter in 1941 and ever since it has been striving to recognize, promote and assist the student in raising his standards of speech in any area of speech in the high school or community. Activities of the year included the appearance of Wanda White, Ervin Kle- ber, Don Putt, Gene Critchfield, and Bob Whitacre on the City Desk Radio program, two initiation ceremonies, a Christmas potluck dinner party and a comic gift exchange, a play for P.T.A., several speech contests and various activ- ity programs. The Chorus, sponsored by Mr. Bernard Pressler, has grown to be one of the most prominent organizations in the school. Films ordered through Miss Helen Augspurger serve both as part of the classroom work and pure entertainment. The Projectionists are serving the school almost constantly in showing films to groups and classes. They main- tain no officers as this organization is purely a service group.
