The Masque and Gavel Society was granted a charter in 1941 and ever since it has been striving to recognize, promote and assist the student in raising his standards of speech in any area of speech in the high school or community. Activities of the year included the appearance of Wanda White, Ervin Kle- ber, Don Putt, Gene Critchfield, and Bob Whitacre on the City Desk Radio program, two initiation ceremonies, a Christmas potluck dinner party and a comic gift exchange, a play for P.T.A., several speech contests and various activ- ity programs. The newest organization in the New Haven High School, the Theta Rho Chap- ter of the Future Teachers of America, was organized on December 1, 1948, by four seniors, Gene Critchfield, Carol Glaze, Jacquelyn Richhart, and Wanda White, who wish to enter the teaching profession. The F.T.A., sponsored by Mr. Myron Henderson, intends to learn the oppor- tunies of teaching, to learn the character qualities essential to teachers, to study the lives of great teachers, and to foster the development of student leadership. The officers of this new organization are: Wanda J.
