THEY IAP OUR ACTIVITIE The Student Council might well Ime called the C. S. U. branch of our school. .-X few years ago the Student Council was just an organization with- out any power and without meaning. From an organization of class presi- dents and vice-presidents it has grown to a membership of twenty and has taken on new responsilmiities. Some of the present duties of the Student Council are: to plan assem- bly programs. give dances, and lie responsilwile for monitors on hall duty. Here are a few of the programs that the Student Council have planned this year: The Orientation program at the liegiiming of the year was the first devotional service of the year with Rev. XYiese as the speaker. 'lihe Council gave a program to acquaint lireshmen with the organizations in our school. The president of each gave a short talk on the purpose of the group which he represented. At the beginning of the Ivasketlwall seaspn llr. Smith introduced ltis prospective Iwasketliall team. 'l'his program was to introduce the sale of Iwasketlvall tickets and to foster the school haskethall spirit. The Speech Class and chorus gave a devotional program at Christmas time. Rev. llr. Ifribley was the speaker at the Ifaster Devotional Service. 'llhe dances supervised Ivy Student Council included a Sport dance held for the first time in the Recreation Room after the Ilecatur ganie Novem- ber 14. The annual Snow l'IaIl Hop was held at Christmas time. 'Iihis dance was also held in the recreation room. flames were played in the Imand room. .X Christmas tree was placed in the main hall uf the school and wreaths hung in each corridor. XYith the Imeginning of Dancing Classes in -Ianuary. a new Course was added lu New Haven. 'llhe instructor of these classes was Mrs. Nell Green. of the Nell Green Dancing School. 'llhe annual May Ilay llance was held on May lst. 'llhe Queen elected for this dance Ivy the en- tire student body was Yerda I-Iyers uf the junior class w ho will reign until the Klay dance next year. lt was through the ef- forts of the Student Coun- cil and the Sunshine So- ciety that we have our presint system of moni- tors on hall duty each period of the day. lt is the aim of the Student Council to have every one in school work on a committee for a pro- gram sometime during' the year.
