LIEUTEN AN T EW t Wie have come a long way together, but our ways will soon part. This thought is in the minds of the 11942 Lieutenants as they come face to face with graduation. The highest possible Scholastic achievement at New Haven High is ineinbership on the four year honor roll. XYe salute Betty Ruth Amstutz, Ervin Bearman, Bette Bell. Mildred Doehrinan, Alberta Fiedler. Betty Goeg- lein, Norman Harper, Betty Larson, Ruth Minick. Harold Parkison, NVanda Putman. Ronald Ramsey. Lelah Rebber. and Elmer Seelig who merit this honor. ln 1941 eighty-seven of the original class of one-hundred-ten students ieturned. The class officers chosen were: David Moehring, president: Don- ald Miller, vice-president: Betty Goeglein, secretary: and Ross Ehle, treasur- er. Bernon Schlink was elected chairman of Miss Hathaway's home room. and Norman Harper was elected in Mr, l easel's 1'OUl1l, During activity periods problems of interest to the seniors were discussed. Several quiz pro- grams were given. NYon't you buy a season basketball ticket from me ? XYould you like a pencil with the schedule of games, or a New Haven High School pin with the school colors ? The girls' smiles and the boys' high pressure won them recognition in salesmanship. 'llliat the Lieutenants have had a success- iul year was proved by the fact that they sold more season basketball tickets than any other group. ' Footloose , a three-act comedy dealing with the problems of a typi- cal American family, was presented as the senior play on the afternoon and evening of December 4. 1941. Kenneth Hammer will long be remembered for his ironing board episode. Uther members of the cast were: Helen Fultz, ivuth Price. Ralph Ransonie, l-ietty XYood. Ross ffhle, Dan l'urvis, Milton tloeglein, Linda lJeRemer. Hette llell, Norman Harper, jean Martin. and -Iohn Stuerzeuberger. Miss Leininger directed the production. The stage crew included Mildred 'llhompson, lone Hawkins, and lfli Adams. The junior-Senior Banquet Reception. and the Senior Convocation were events looked forward to by the l.ieutenants. Un May 2: the seniors received their diplomas and an honorable discharge from the familiar halls. You can hardly name an important school office which has not been held by some member of the senior class. betty Ruth .Xmstutz was selected as best citizen by vote of the student body and faculty. She was also presi- dent of the Sunshine Society. Donald Miller presided over the many Student Council activities. Seven seniors were on the lirst string basketball team. Dan l'urvis edited the Mirage. Algunda Frosch worked as editor of the News Static. Evelyn Myers was tl. .-X. .X. president and Elmer Stellhorn was president of the Letterniens's Club. As this book goes to press, plans for a probable trip to Chicago are being laid by the Lieutenants. Ks the years march on, the personnel of the New Haven Division will change, but the drive of the 194: Lieutenants toward a continuing Vic- iory Campaign will not stop just because their marching orders changed with high school graduation.
