mvmnriea 1923 Eramatirz The members of the Public Speak- ing class gave a program Friday, No- vember ninth, in the high school as- sembly. The program was given in honor of .-Xrmistice Day and proved a great success. The program was opened by the reveilla played by De- ion Phillips. Old war songs were sung by the school. after which read- ings were given by Harold Daniels. 'ZX Yillage Somewhere in France g X'-.'il.ard Lucas. To The Boys of .Xmeriea 5 Carl Gable. joan D'.-Xrc : and Devon Phillips. In Flanders Field . Germania Gerardot gave an intreduction to a Sturat VX'alker play. Yoices which was played by Edrie Thomas and Arneda XK'inner. joan uf Arc was sung by five girls of the l'nh'ic Speaking class. Taps was sounded and once more the celebration uf the end of The Vyorld XX'ar was re- newed by the future citizens of Amer- ica. The Senior class, having been as- signed the Thanksgiving entertain- ment by the faculty. gave their pro- gram XYednesday. November twenty- ninth. The orchestra played several numbers receding the introduction P s given by Jessie Sheehan. Nan Lantz introduced Carl Gable, Harriet Lake, Germania Gerardot, who each read a paragraph on XVhy The Students Should Take a More Enthusiastic Part nk. 1-:mm in School Activities . Harold Daniels gave a selection on The Landing of The Pilgrims 5 Edrie Thomas The First Thanksgiving Day 3 Zelda Rich- hart, The First Thanksgiving Proc- lamation . Carrie Goeglein wrote and read .-X Yision which gave in an in- teresting manner the progress that our nation has made since the landing of the Pilgrims. Martin Sheehan talked on XYhy XYe Should Be Thankful . This ended the program. ' The junior Class capped the climax in originality at Christmas time. Their program was unique from start to lin- ish. The playlet given by them was read from their manuscripts and acted at the same time, and with almost the same freedom that a committed manu- script would have produced. XYillard l ucas. president of the class, opened the program with an admonition of llow and XN'hy XX'e Should Celebrate Christmas , then presented the mem- bers of the class who gave the follow- ing numbers: Vocal Selection Gladys Nulf Introduction of playlet Hazel Vizard Christmas At Number Seven Juniors At the end of the playlet Santa Claus brought in a number of mechanical dolls dressed as carpenters, brides. baby dolls and dudes. Lester Mills, as the carpenter, gave a clever imper- sonation of Mr. Clem, and Claude
