Q7 A lx X Memoriam Isabel Stewart Mitchell was for many years a member of the History Department in the New Haven High School. Her background and training were that of a scholar. Miss Mitchelfs father was a Presbyterian minister in western New York, and her mother was a distinguished gentlewoman. Miss Mitchell's early classical training was given by her father. Her later education was received at the University of Rochester, Maryville College, and Yale University, where she proved herself capable both as a student and research worker. When the Connecti- cut Tercentenary Commission was searching for historians to write pamphlets for its celebration, Miss Mitchell was chosen to prepare one on The Roads of Colonial Connecticutf, Miss Mitchell's personality was one which had many facets. She was a person of intense enthusiasms and great personal charm. Her keen sense of humor made her 11-, delightful companion among both students and faculty. Her penetrating mind made history a living subject in the minds of her pupils. The school feels deeply the loss of an outstanding member of its faculty. 1 E ' . , .... ,Wi -C -.A..s-.-.,.r......-,..a.i.-.i....,....-.,.--.-,..,...,..-Q-...f 'NXf X 1 26
