I QQ w44 R EE W, ,,, To thc Class of 1942 We are now engaged in the most stupendous W ll the world has ever known a war which is to determine our verv existence The awful menace of treacherous and powerful enemies is every day revealing itself to us. The future of the world is at stake, and the outcome of this frightful struggle now hangs in the balance. On all sides the question is being asked, Is our Democracy to survive? You members of the graduating class, who are about to leave our halls, must face this critical problem and be prepared to do your part in carrying on to ulti- mate and glorious victory. I believe that you will, for you have shown a willing- ness to cooperate, a determination to succeed, and a courage to meet your many problems in the four years you have spent in completing the high school curri- culum. But you must also have faith, so that in this war-torn world you may believe firmly in what you are doing and carry high the torch of progress, as you perform your daily tasks. Never before in the histo1'y of the world has an education been so essential as it is today, and only by having derived the greatest possible value from your four years in this school can you be prepared to play your several parts in the stirring, world-shaking drama which is being enacted before your eyes. Your record as a class has been an excellent one, a most promising harbinger. I hope, of the success that will be yours as you take your places in the YVorld of Today and of Tomorrow. Your friendship I treasure very deeply, and, as we part, may I wish you all the happiness, the courage, the faith, and the loyalty which America symbolizes. Cordially yours, FRANK II. L.: lu ilu C lass 0 1947 lt is indeed pleasurable for ine to contemplate on the fact that tlll'Cl' years ago, yours was the first class I organized in my capacity as principal of the afternoon school. I recall many of the admonitions I gave you at that time, many of the goals I set for you to attain, and now, it is clear that not only have you been singularly heedful, but also eminently successful in attaining your ultimate goal. Once again, you make a beginning toward new goals, the greatest of which is to be Won only by close adherence to those principles of personal sacrifice and self-reliance, and the exercising of an indomitable will to aid the war effort of our country, until victory is won. Moreover, you must fight until those forces which militate against the tenents of democracy and right living have been irrevocably purged, and those dominent traits of the American national character, so well typified in you young men and women, have been allowed to flourish unhampered by those who would repress them. VV ith sincere best wishes to each member of the class. Cordially yours, Emxloxs 1. Bow1cN, N. H. H. S. '15 18 Y-is

A cry for i'Peace on earth, good-will to menf' W'hat a challenge to all of usl The First VVorld NVar did not bring everlasting peace as we had hoped. and now with the Second XVorld XVar the cry is the same. Our men in service today were children at the time of the first war, and soon many members of this class will follow in their footsteps. There is work for all of us, whether we are in uniform or not, and We have faith that the members of the Class of 1942 will answer the call. You have shown your loyalty in many ways during the year, and especially since December seventh when the bombing of Pearl Harbor was felt around the world. You have been ready and willing to give of your time and energy wherever you were needed. You have answered the call for volunteers in many kinds of defense projects. You have been eager to help whenever possible. NVith all the demands that will be placed upon us for several years to come, remember that one outstanding prerequisite is Education. Four years of secondary school training is a good beginning. Strive for more knowledgeg whether it be factory, home. office, or college, keep climbingln My sincere best wishes, and may God keep you safe wherever you may be. Cordially yours. BARBARA A. L. PIEVVLETT, Dean 20
