- W ,Y gsm A 1 --..., l!?If5fSGS QE 1:1192 752 TO THE CLASS OF XINIQTEICN 'l'XYliN'l'Y-SEVEN: A strong middle class makes a strong nation. Fortunate is that nation the majority of whose citizens are strong physically, intellectually, and morally! Education should help young men and young women to become good citizens. An outstanding characteristic of the Class of Nineteen Twenty-seven has been the steady development of a strong virile good citizenship among its members. Courteousness, a cooperative spirit, a strong sense of duty, and strength of character have made you good citizens of New Haven High School. Your attitude toward the responsibilities of school life is a happy indication that you will meet the duties of life in the same unflinching manner. IRVING N. CoUN'rRYx1AN, i-Issf. Primripal 14

You have been so kindly, so sympathetic, so ready to feel, and to serve- when you were most needed. lt has lmeen a lmeautiful giving of yourselves, and augurs well for your attitudes as you leave us to face life. God give you strength! Not to achieve The greatest things in life, Nor to pass hy In selfish Contest others in the race for power, Nor even to ontrun them toward brave ends, llut that at length You may relieve A little of the eare of human strife, and wrong and crime, And satisfy Your longing to stand straight in trial's hour, And comfort, joy, and trust to luring to friends, God give you strength! :Swans f ityxa , ,'UlE mai TO THE CLASS OF 1927: Graduation activities luring us mixed feelings of joy and sadness. Before us, in the future, are adventures which we eagerly and joyfully anticipate, and behind lie many pleasant relations, parting with which brings real regret. The four years of high school now passed leave remembrances of failures and successes. But the prevailing mood is one of looking forward to the new responsi- bilities which we shall have to accept. The way in which we meet these responsi- bilities and carry on will be the test of our four year high school education. Not just the lessons prepared nor the recitations made nor the social activities engaged in, but the things which have entered into our character during these four years, as we have seen and used our opportunities aright, will he the proof of the value gain- ed from New Haven High, If you members of the Class of 1927 meet these new problems with open minds, cool judgment, determination, and a consideration for others, you will have caught and lived up to the spirit and tradition of New Haven High. No one doubts you will. RALPH XVENTWORTII, Asst. Principal 15
