5 iBvan'r- ilflwmigr To 'rniz CLixss or 1922: Four of the haniest fears of your lives are drawing to a close 'ears during .. ti a tv which a world of shattered ideals has been struggling to reclaim itself, and estab- lish among its peoples a .true Brotherhood of Man. Such a world looks to you, young women and men, as the hope of the future, and surely it will not find you wanting. , You are living in a strenuous age, where selfishness and pleasure-seeking and frivolity and irresponsibility are weakening the strongest bulwark of our nation, the American home, and America turns to you. Girls and boys of today, you are the mothers and fathers of tomorrow, the future makers and preservers of the nation, and what greater honor could be yours? But your task is stupendous. You must girdle yourselves strong in the armor of service, of justice, of prudence, and self-reliance, and stand an impreguable wall about that center of civilization, the home, and they who strive to lower its ideals or desecrate its sacredness, shall have to answer your challenge. Service and sacrifice. Truly, you comprehend their full significance, for your young lives have been lived while men have served and sacrificed and died, for the preservation of their homes. But your task is even more difficult: you must serve and sacrifice and liveg live clean, unselfish, God-fearing lives 3 live as the great men and women of the past lived, so that society and the home will be better for your having lived. Having learned the lesson of service and sacrifice, you will have discerned in your fellowman, That thread of the all-sustaining Beauty which runs through all and doth all unite --and Charity that binds the Brotherhood of Man will again reign queen of virtues. Prudence and self-reliance will raise you above the petty strifes of life and stamp upon you in indelible characters the tribute of noble manhood and woman- hood. It is of little importance what vocation you will immediately follow, but it is of supreme importance that in your chosen vocation you keep ever before you those guiding principles. Your school has faith in you. - May the future deal kindly with you, and may the blessings of a kind Providence rest upon you always, is my sincere wish for you. - ELLEN P.
