6 NEW HAVEN HIGII SCHOOL 'CLASS BOOK VVe are inside the building wandering around the halls, look- ing in vain for our rooms. Summoning up our whole courage, we tiinidly approach one-who-knows, a Soph, Junior, or even a Senior, and inquire the way to Room -. Upon being directed, we hasten to the room, and are soon busy filling out registration blanks. It seems strange to hear the teacher prefix the title Mr. or Miss to our names. This business-like address is quite a change from the familiar first name of the grammar school. This first day is a day of wonders, but the novelty will soon wear off and we will become accustomed to the new ways, the passing from one recitation to another, the devotional exercises in the Audi- torium, the school papers, and last, though not least, the lunch counter. It is one o'clock and we are hurrying home to tell all our experiences. That October is ideal for football, is shown by the squads of players going through the snappy practice. IQOQ is ably repre- sented on the field, though we do not win the championship. One of the players on the Scrubl' team, Butch Carroll, makes the regular team in his first year, while a few years later a good part of the team makes the 'fregularsf' In basketball we turn out a fast team that gains the class cham- pionship. Many girls have received invitations to the li. T.-, Alpha Al- pha, and Kappa Mu Sigma teas. They are attending in gala attire while the boys can only stand by an-fl enviously admire them. Again we are in the Auditorium before the 'Christmas vacation. Expectant, we wait for the commencement of the entertainment. W'e are not disappointed, for, thanks to the efforts of the School Circle, the Freshman entertainment proves a great success and is immensely enjoyed by all. It is a New Year and we are back in school after our Christ- mas vacation, filled with new energy and new resolutions. Each afternoon we take 'home a pile of books, fwe sometimes forget the deskj but sad to rela-te, the pile gradually diminishes in size and so do our new resolutions. Even then it is gratifying to note that the honor list of the Freshman Class can be favorably coni- pared with that of the other classes.

Fondly, we connect that very important event of our lives, our en- trance to the New Haven High School with 1905. Our thoughts linger upon it and recollections come and go in a contin- uous stream, gliding by like a procession of silent spirits. llle are living over the prominent incidents of our Freshman year. Again it a mild September morning and we are hurrying to the High School. XYe feel rather nervous and by our uneasy actions the Upper Classinen know us at once to be Scrubs Of course, we arrive very early and have plenty of time to look about us before the bell rings. NYC seek a place aside from the crowd and watch the old-timers talking and jczllying. Observing what the other classes do, forms a large part of the Scrubs training. If perchance an Upper Classnian should but glance at us, we blush a deep red. for our very presence seems to breathe out the word-Freshman.

' Civ 'H NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL Cmss Book 7 This is a period when marks are due to fall. Although we are only '4Freshies, some of us have progressed far enough to be present at dances and entertainments. The Alpha Delta Sigma Fraternity hrst gave its dance and entertainment, and also the sketch My Friend X. The Gamma Delta Psi people also gave an entertainment and dance, presenting the play Too Much of a Good Thing. The Theta Sigma Fraternity had a minstrel show which was a decided success. The many sleepy looks and answers of not preparedw show how well these enjoyable affairs are attended. Time has quickly passed and the term is drawing to a close. XYe are all busy finishing up our work and taking exams As the final day of school approaches we find Ourselves rich in ex- perience and new friends. Vie hail the end of our Scrub year with delight, for next year XVE shall be able to shout 'fScrub! at the incoming class. As this page in history is turned over, an inclefinable feeling of pleasure mingled with regret fills us, XVe can look back and see where we have erred. But it is done. and through all, the bright spots of the year shine out.
