NEW HAVEN Hicn Scnooi. CLixss Boox 15 made a good beginning, for we, as a class, were well-represented in the Debating Societies, the N. H. H. S. A. A., in athletics, dramatics, and especially in the School Circle. Into the last- named organization our best Workers had been elected from time to time so that the Circle would start well in the fall. The last Hutter of excitement came in the way of elections to the Senior Shakespeare Club, and then, before we had time for much regretting or rejoicing the last day had come. For ns, the class of 1909, it was the last day of fa hard, but happy year, during which we had begun to realize, what we shall probably fully realize later, how much We really care for, and how attached We have become to dear old New Haven High. . , , 14 NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL CLAss BOOK Langley of Hillhouse was elected secretaryg and Mr. Fifield of Boardman, treasurer, with Miss Schneider of Hillhouse and Miss Sarles of Boardman as his assistants. Mr. Cross was elected ser- geant-at-arms. And then we were really organized as a class. Friday night, April twenty-fourth, Zeta Chapter of Alpha Iota Epsilon Fraternity gave a dance in XVarner Hall. The dance was well-attended and the dancers spent a very enjoyable even- ing and one which they will remember with pleasure. The junior Reading Circle, which had been formed earlier in the year by Miss Cleaveland, held -their closing entertainment in the Library, Friday, May Ist. The circle was composed of mem- bers of the junior Class of Hillhouse, and more than twenty of the girls had joined. ,7Duri,ng theqyear,-,meetings had been held every two weeks and selections had been read from various Amer- ican poets. The entertainment was in keeping wi-th the work done by the circle, being a representation of The Courtship of Miles Standish. Miss Blake, secretary of the circle. read several se- lections from the poem between the scenes. Miss Petrie as Pris- cilla, Miss Barnes as john Alden, and Miss Quinlan as Miles Standish headed a cast of very clever actresses. Many of the Sophomores were present, and both Sophomores and Juniors en- joyed the little play immensely. Late in April, the Seniors gave their promenade and dance in Music Hall. This was the first time that the Seniors had at- tempted a promenade and it was such a success that probably it will become an animal event. The last big social event of the year was the Cresent Enter- tainment and Dance given in Music Hall, Friday, May Sth. The farce entitled The Peacemakeru was very successfully played and the dance was a long-to-be-remembered one. And now the end of the year was approaching. The Seniors were preparing for graduation, and we juniors felt very unim- portant when we thought of the year that still remained before we could represent the graduating class of New Haven High School. And in that year we had a great deal to do. junior year ,at its best was only a preparation for the leadership of the school. As we looked back over the past ten months, we felt that we had
