HIS quotation could truly be applied to the feelings of the Class of 1905 when, one bright morning in Septem- ber, we returned for the second time to dear old Hill- house, Sophomores! Verily, no other name could fully express our emotions. VVe were no longer insignificant Scrubs -those days were over and with them all ourytroubles. The football season soon broke the monotony of school life and inspired fresh enthusiasm. The team was unusually success- ful and attracted great attention by its brilliant victoriesg among them that famous game at Meriden with a score of eighteen to twelve and a championship for the school. P However, all the pleasures of the year were not reserved for the boys. In the early fall the Alpha Alpha Society gave a very pretty tea to the girls of the school. A little later the B. T.- Society very pleasantly entertained the girls of the three upper classes. This was followed by a tea given by the Kappa Mu Sigma girls. In the early winter the Scientific boys showed their dramatic talent by very successfully presenting parts of Shalcespeare's Julius Czesarf'

Fmsr YEAR Crass. 9 Being scrubs we did not participate very generally in the social functions of the school, but looked forward to them as future pleasures. 'What joy we used to have at recess when we were privileged to stroll down Broadway and patronize the grub venders. Qur hearts were all saddened by the death of President Mc- Kinley, which took place shortly after school opened. As a fitting tribute to his memory the whole school marched to Calvary Bap- tist Church, where commemorative exercises were held. As nothing is enduring in this world, neither are scrubs. Many were the siffhs of relief when that year of trials and tribulations 6 was at last over and we could raise our eyes to higher and better things. Newton R. lWmz1'0ss. ,. I ,fwfff .. Sizcoxn SKIQAR Cinxss. I I Then came our Christmas recess, followed in the early part of january by the Radiator entertainment and dance. The farce, My Class Day, was greatly enjoyed. This was followed by a dance given by the Theta Sigma Fraternity. In May a second farce, entitled, The New Reporter, was presented to us by the Crescent Dramatic Club, after which we enjoyed another dance. lt was about this tinie that we bade farewell to dear old Hill- house, and, armed with books and umbrellas Qfor even nature wept at our departurej and led by a German band, we marched bravely to York Square to take possession of our new Hillhouse. lt took us almost the remainder of the year to become accus- tomed to our new abode, for many of us were but as strangers in a foreign land and oft strayed about like lost sheep, forced to seek the shelter of our next recitation. But days and months pass quickly byg time, it never standeth still. So, ere we realized it. our Sophomore year was over and honored juniors we were at last. Frarzzces C. Bamz T oordman., HAT 'fsum tota res was the supreme thought in the minds of all of us when we returned to Boardman, as Sophomores, is beyond dispute. But now, with the wisdom of two years later, we look back with pleasure and some amusement to the time when we could, with justihcation, laud ourselves over the infants who had just taken our places. Professor Mather, who had been our principal the year before and whom we already knew as T, 'Willief' was at first greatly missed, but when Mr. Kirschner filled his place our regret was alleviated. The very first day we were instructed to leave the Scrubs alone, and although a few obeyed the instruction there were others
