Fmsr YEAR Crass. 9 Being scrubs we did not participate very generally in the social functions of the school, but looked forward to them as future pleasures. 'What joy we used to have at recess when we were privileged to stroll down Broadway and patronize the grub venders. Qur hearts were all saddened by the death of President Mc- Kinley, which took place shortly after school opened. As a fitting tribute to his memory the whole school marched to Calvary Bap- tist Church, where commemorative exercises were held. As nothing is enduring in this world, neither are scrubs. Many were the siffhs of relief when that year of trials and tribulations 6 was at last over and we could raise our eyes to higher and better things. Newton R. lWmz1'0ss. ,. I ,fwfff .. 8 Nlaw I-l..xvi4:x l-lion Scnooi. Cmss Book. Early in the Spring. some of Miss Mei-Xlister's classes gave a Sliakesperian play in the large Library of Hillhouse. Then came the Radiator dance, followed by our Spring vacation. Wle then realized we would be ignored by our elders but few months more, and that we were to be honored, as being the last class to enter, and remain a whole year in our old, beloved Hillhouse. Ge11c-Wa HUIIIIICI' Strong. oeirrelmmeitmo HEN one attempts to recall events of four years ago they seem to be very dim, in one's recollection. But yet we must start back here in giving the history of the class of 1905 from the time that, as scrubs, we First sat on the old fence and awaited developments. As yet we had not seen the interior of that mysterious building, for thus it appealed to our youthful imaginations. 'Wle knew only that we were to spend four years of learning inside its walls. Our trouble started as soon as we had received our schedules. for we had no idea where the various recitation rooms were and we found them only after much difficulty. Wfe received a hard scrubbing'l from the upper classmen, as we had to run the gauntlet every day for a week in order to get into school, and the faculty were nowhere around, much to our chagrin. A The class so exceeded in numbers that of its predecessors that there was not enough room for all. On this account, some divi- sions were excused at quarter after twelve every day during the year and others were excused at recess twice a week. The football season was now on and IQO5 had three men on the team, which had a very successful year.

HIS quotation could truly be applied to the feelings of the Class of 1905 when, one bright morning in Septem- ber, we returned for the second time to dear old Hill- house, Sophomores! Verily, no other name could fully express our emotions. VVe were no longer insignificant Scrubs -those days were over and with them all ourytroubles. The football season soon broke the monotony of school life and inspired fresh enthusiasm. The team was unusually success- ful and attracted great attention by its brilliant victoriesg among them that famous game at Meriden with a score of eighteen to twelve and a championship for the school. P However, all the pleasures of the year were not reserved for the boys. In the early fall the Alpha Alpha Society gave a very pretty tea to the girls of the school. A little later the B. T.- Society very pleasantly entertained the girls of the three upper classes. This was followed by a tea given by the Kappa Mu Sigma girls. In the early winter the Scientific boys showed their dramatic talent by very successfully presenting parts of Shalcespeare's Julius Czesarf'
