We chose for our class colors blue and white and for our motto,, OurmstrengthweiesineUnity. . Second Year Having passed the dull, sloomy first year, we entered the second year ready to smash all previous records and set new goals. We settled down to serious studying of mathe- matics, history, science, and languages. Due to our good judgment in selecting Louise Hooper, president, and Dick Cantwell, vice-president, we inaugurated the first class dance. By now we felt we had become an active part of the student body and had taken our real place in its being. That year New Hanover High School was accorded the great honor of being selected to have the R. O. T. C. We were especially proud when our unit was selected as an honor unit by the War Department Ours was the first unit ever to achieve this distinction its first year. Third Year Outside activities began to claim our attention, and we began joining the clubs which best suited our talents. Our class officers for this year were Warren Pennington, presi- dent, and Sam Behrends, vice-president. During this year many shows were produced and the class really became “the CLASS HISTOR Y—Continued class of the age.” Following closely was the unexcelled, much waited for, Junior-Senior Prom. Fourth Year In our fourth year we took everything by storm. There seemed to be no limits to the things we could do. The Hanoverian broke all previous records for subscriptions; the Student Council brought student government closer to the individual student than ever before; the Wildcat, our student edited paper, reached a new high in publication. These and many other achievements, far too numerous to mention showed the world that we really were N. H. H. S. at its best. Our officers for this year were Allan Strange, president, and Vennon Hayes, vice-president. Fifth Year At last our dream has been realized. We have become Seniors. How long we have looked forward to the many privileges the word implies. Although we had the smallest senior Class in the last several years we felt none the less 1m- portant. The Senior Play, another wonderful success for the class, the use of the famous senior steps, the selection of class superlatives, and marching out first from the chapel exer- cises all increased our Senior dignity. Under the guidance of our president, Demming Smith, we finally come to the event of all events—graduation. We have finally achieved our highest goal. The end has come to the happiest five years of our life. It is time to set aside our caps and gowns and face the uncertain future. It is with mixed emotions—happiness and sorrow—-that we bid good- bye to dear old N. H. H. S. D., do make, publish, and declare this our Last Will and Testament. To our great rivals, the rising Seniors, we do bequeath, first and foremost the OPPORTUNITY that was ours; we hope they will see this precious right, and take full advantage of it. Second, our undying love and never-ending respect for the faculty, who gave willingly to us their precious time in trying to prepare us for our future lives; and last, but not least we give to you the privilege you have been looking for- ward to for the last three years, the mighty symbol of Senior power, the Senior steps, which we trust will be kept tradi- tionally clean of all underclassmen. Individual Classmen have given their wills as follows: I, Marion Woopsury, leave to LEAMON RoGers my art of being true. I, EMILE SALEEBY, bequeath to LEoN Topp my political ability feeling confident he will not in anyway abuse it.
