Following graduation from high school he went to Madison and worked for two year before attending the University of Wisconsin. He graduated from the University in 1935 with a major in Physical Education and history. Dxring the summer months of his college days he was employed on the playgrounds of Milwaukee. Ir: the fall of 1955 he was employed as coach at Galesville, Wisconsin, where he re- mained until March 1942 when he enlisted in the Navy. Mr. Fries coached basketball, baseball, and track and had very good success. After a lapse of ten years, he started foot- ball at Galesville in the fall of 1941. In 1942 three important events took place in the life of Mr. Fries. First he became a married man, second he was fortunate enough to have a basketball team in the state tournament at Madison, and third, he enlisted in the Navy on March 23 as a Chief Specialist in Athletics. Among his varied duties in the Navy, he served as assistant football and baseball coach at Western Michigan College at Kalamazoo, Michigan and head basketball coach at California Polytechnic College, San Luis Obispo, California. When the war ended, Mr. Fries was on duty in the Pacific Theatre. He is still in the -Naval Reserve and has the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Upon his discharge from active duty, Mr. Fries resumed his coaching duties at Galesville and in April, 1946, he became Principal of Schools in the same system. When the school district expanded through reorganization in 1949, he was appointed Principal of the new district, which position he held until he was appointed Principal at New Glarus in November, 1952. Mr. Fries was President of the Western Wisconsin Teacher Association of La Crosse in 1951. While at Galesville he was President of the Men's Club of the Pres- byterian Church and President of the Golf Club. At present, Mr. Fries is President of the Lions' Club in New Glarus -2- ' 4 MR. Dennis Pauli is Master of Ceremonies, and he now owns the trains from New Glarus, Monticello, Belleville, and Blanchardville. Norman Glaeden is his accountant. Business must not be too good. Neither of them has eaten for weeks. We have politicians in this class too, for Melvie Fuchs just gave us a speech. He is running for Mayor of jimtown. Gerald Lancaster is now owner of the general store in Jimtown. Some of us have gone, into the world of entertainment. Don and john Buesser are making their living by singing in a way no one ever dared try before in public -- Off Key! Jeanette Urben is a concert pianist and has been around the world three times. Louann Butts is an opera singer and has gone around the world twice. She would have caught up with Jeanette, but she missed the boat to be here today. Carol Johnson finally made the grade after years of practicing. She is Judy Walden's understudy. Judy is a professional bubble dancer. Oh! Oh! One of Margie Cnee Schneiderb Meland's boys just got hurt. No need to worry, though, we have two nurses with us, Kay Itten and Rochelle Albertson. Rochelle is now head of St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Kay is her assistant. It seems they aren't talking, which makes it rather hard to work together. You see, there is only one cute doctor up there, and they are both fighting hard to get married before they're thirty. Their interpreter is here too, Donna Hefty. By the way, Vernie Meland is just resting and letting twelve sons and two daughters run the farm. We have three teachers here. Rhoda Babler is the Dean of Women at the Univers- ity of Winconsin and recently wrote a book, How To Be A Brain in Ten Hard Les- sons. Lynette Lee is a teacher in one of Chicago's largest schools, and Carol Albertson is a Phy. Ed teacher in California. Representing Uncle Sam is Don Wyttenbach. He is home on leave from the Navy. He came alone as it would get rather involved if he brought his girl from every port. Did you notice the large billboard right outside of town? Well, Kathy Disch de- signed that. She also just signed a contract to take over Edith Head's place in Hollywood. Carol Hoesly came with Kathy. She is now the pirvate secretary to the President of the United States. We even have some inventors with us. Randy Ott has invented a more economical motor for Ford Motor Company. Harvey has developed a new barn-cleaning method - No Cattle! Armond Hanna has discovered a new way to milk cows faster and easier. Well, here come three more cars. Don Fjelstad is in the first car. He is now living on a farm outside of Mt. Horeb, is married and has four girls. He has to go home early to milk the cows. You see, he doesn't believe in Armond's method. Lois Cnee Boll! Austin lives on the Mt. Vernon-New Glarus road. Her two boys and three girls keep her pretty busy, but we're glad she managed to be here today. Mae Knee 'Heimannj Kollath was in the third car. She is also very busy. After all, taking care of Bob and two children is not an easy job. We just woke. Dean Tschudy up to ask him what he has been doing lately. His answer - Sleeping. We noticed all the newspapers around here are edited by Werner Bodenmann. New Glarus now has a 25-page newspaper which keeps Werner busy. Two of the members of our class were unable to attend, Ruth Hicks, who is living in Canada and has become friendly with the Indians, and Richard Arn. Richard owns the biggest ranch in Texas and had to be out on a spring round-up. Ann Luchsinger and Margie Klassy finally arrived. Oh well, better late than never, they say. Ann has her own beauty shop now, and her dad is helping her. Margie has opened a driving school. Of course, only Buicks are used. That's all! We hope to see you all in 1974. -221 'Hx .x unior CALM ROW ONE-Mr. Seiber, S. Lolelfen, M, Colney, M, Meytbuler, M. Rimly, G, Brolen M. Znrbirrbefz, L. Fumelb. S. Sclmzid, B. Argne, D. Dunt, G.
