’82 Class History We started school in the fall of 1970, with 39 students including: Nancy Doe. JoLynn Doe. Nancy Jeske. Rodney Redtzke. Rodney Nielsen. Gina Rettinger, Jeff Hewson, Mark Schaeffer, Elven Kaufman, Sheldon Bohnhoff, Daryn Gullickson, Charles Olson, Jamie Stang, Melanie Jalbert, Faith Farber, Stacy Schaible, Sarah Krenz, Amy Krenz, Derek Johnson, David Weiler, David Rettinger. Galen Anton. LaVonne Anton, Darrell Koppinger, Jana Wilkens. Wesley Wilkens, Shari Bohnoff. Lora Morel, Lynn Kuntz, Tom Koffler, Kari Haugen. John Hattlestead, Dean Benz. Theresa Steier, Kelly Bautz. Kim Rustan, Netty Gordon, Jeff Schulz, and Suzie Bargman. Because our class was so large, we were split into two groups. Mrs. Kirschman taught one class and Mrs. Johnson taught the other. Several of the highlights of our first year at school include the time that Mrs. Kirschman put Mark Schaeffer on the leash and led him to the lunchroom. David Weiler and Derek Johnson were constantly fighting and both spent a lot of time in the corner. Our class was considerably smaller at the end of the year, we lost David Weiler, David Rettinger. Darrell Koppinger. Tom Koffler, Kari Haugen, Stacy Schaible. Sarah Krenz. and Ray Krenz. The 2nd grade brought five new students: Jerry Heidt, Carrie Oberlander. Don Maixner, Beth Ehlis. and Missy Gentz. who all transferred from St. Mary’s. Having to get our immunization shots was our biggest worry. Charles Olson fainted from the dreaded BOOSTER SHOT, while the rest of us traded scars. Nancy and JoLynn were kicked out of Mr Morey’s music class for laughing and had to go back to the room while the rest of us sang. No one left that year. Mrs. Tews made the 3rd grade one of our favorites. We had reading wars trying to see who could read the most books, and we also had contests in the lunchroom at milkbreak, to see who could drink their milk the fastest. We lost Jana Wilkens that year. The 4th grade brought many changes to our class. Hubert Eble and Chuck Klein joined us that year. The girls and boys no longer hated each other and began to write love notes. The best love note of all was the one that Nancy Jeske wrote to Jeff Hewson Mrs. Austin tacked it up on the bulletin board for ALL of us to read. Charles Olson broke his leg playing a violent game of pom pom tackle and had to miss the annual picnic on the last day of school. Hubert Eble. John Hattlestead, Netty Gordon, Dean Benz. Derek Johnson left us. Mrs. Lambourn had a hard time telling our names apart in the 5th grade. The boys put tacks in their shoes and kicked the girls until someone accidentally kicked Mrs. Lambourn; all of the boys were sent to the office. Meanwhile, the girls devised the perfect plan to pass notes. One girl would put a note in the dictionary and leave it for the next girl to pick up and read. We all eventually got caught and had to write 500 word themes. The boys were put in THE BOX and were put in the back of the room. Rodney and Carrie were the hot couple and were nicknamed Romeo and Juliet. Jerry Heidt and Beth Ehlis both transferred to St. Mary’s. The 6th grade brought Fay Etta Bohlman to our class. We started band in January with Mr. Erdman, who ALL the girls had a crush on. Shari Bohnhoff stabbed Don Maixner with a compass and was later named KILLER. Daryn also had a good year, his favorite teacher, Mrs. Hanson lifted him out of his desk and threw him against the filing cabinets. Our class took a fieldtrip to Regent and everyone brought yo yo’s which were the latest fad. Jeff Schulz, Fay Etta Bohlman, and Suzie Bargman left. Netty Gordon rejoined us in the 7th grade, and Little rubber superballs were THE IN THING. Several of the memorable events of that year include the day that Mr. Wobig was an hour late for class, the bathroom door broke and 5 girls got locked in, and the day that Mr. Knutson threw his music stand at the band because Nancy and Carrie switched horns. No one left that year. Not much happened in the 8th grade. LaVonne Anton had a crush on Pat Walsh, and our basketball team won the Jr. High Championship. The highlight of the year was our 8th grade graduation party and hayride on Rainy Butte. Robert Binstock brought the highest price at the Freshman Initiation Sale. Drivers Ed was our favorite class and most of us soon began to drive. Mr. Reiter stepped on JoLynn’s squirt gun and broke it. Netty Gordon’s basketball party was the big social event of the year. Our Sophomore year brought financial problems. When we accidentally spray painted Oberlander’s pickup during homecoming week. Our skunk on our float did look better than the toilet we had the year before. We put on a Valentines Dance and used the money to repay Oberlanders. Daryn had another good year, he broke a window in the math room during the fall and later Mr. Haussler had to take him out of class to explain the meaning of a word that he used during the writing of the Freshman Initiation Creed. To top it all off, he stuck a scissors in an outlet in the Biology room. Smoke poured from the outlet and sparks flew across the room. Galen developed a new type of dissection which looked like something that had crawled out of a Nazi Concentration camp. Our Junior year began with the addition of Nadine Doll to our class. The Junior play brought many laughs. Daryn drove his motorcycle into the gym one night, and he came topless during dress rehearsal. When play day came everything went wrong. Daryn’s moustache rubbed off on Jamie’s cheek and Daryn shot Faith with a fire extinguisher. Prom time came and we surprised everyone by getting it done on time. It was one of the most original and beautiful proms that the school has ever seen. We proved to everyone that we could do anything if we put our minds to it. Our Senior year came at last. Kim Rustan became Mrs. Kim Kaul and had a beautiful baby girl named Christin Kaul. whom we all adore. Phy. Ed. proved to be very interesting when Galen Anton knocked Nancy Doe over and broke her glasses. We spent a lot of time running since we had to run all hour when we lost a baseball. We finally received some nicknames by the time we were seniors, Chuck Klein was CHUCKLES, Daryn was BRONCO, Elven was ELEVEN, and Charles was SPAZ. Daryn and Chuck’s home movies and commercials became very popular and won the coveted English IV Golden Globe Awards. Our favorite was Rocky III. Bette Basher left us in January. The senior girls put on a Senior Class Play which eventually took 6th at the District Contest. We also surprised Daryn by stashing pizzaburgers, noodlesoup, crackers, carrots, and sandwiches in his locker in case he didn’t get enough at dinner. Daryn and Chuck also spent a considerable amount of time in Mr. Lechler’s office that year. Throughout the years we’ve had our share of disagreements and problems but we’ve also laughed together, cried together, learned together and even grown together. We’ve spent some of the best times of our lives with each other in these last 12 years and the realization that we will soon be parting only makes us grow closer together. And together we, The Class Of ’82 shall graduate. 12
