To a man who's inspired many students. He's seen so many come and many go. To one whose qualities of sportsmanship and leadership have won a place of high respect, deep admiration, and warm affection among both the student body and faculty. We, hereby, dedicate the 1971 TIGER TALES to our superintendent Mr. James A. Broton. Yup! My teachers, they were really smart. They learned me more junk than I ever thought I could ever get learned. Stuff like how to speak at people right. And in Math Class we was learned to do numbers. HUH? My History teacher really done wonders. He learned us to do out- come tax real good. In Typing Class we was taught to make pictures on the type- writer! Science was lots of fun, too. We did things like set paper towels on fire with the Bunsen Burner. It was a gas! FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Jung, Mr. Stock, Mrs. Weinreig, Mr. Koppinger, SECOND ROW: Miss Steiner, Mr. Held, THIRD ROW: Mr. Morrey, Mr. Lechler- principle, Mr. Broton-Superintendent. 4 Our Vo. Ag. teacher used to tell us funny jokes about cows and bulls that were real stinkers! But that wasn't near as bad as when the Home Ec. girls used to stink up the whole school with their cooking. And we had the funniest Music man. Some times when we'd play a funny chord in band, he would just cover up his ears and look real funny. I guess it was cause we played too loud. Yup! My teachers, they were real fine people! N. E.H.S. The 1969 Tiger Football Team, after much sweat, little luck, and a lot of skill, coaching, and desire finished the season with seven wins and no defeats, to capture the Cannonball conference Championship. The Tigers were led by Co-Captions Doug Keller and Mike Schatz. The 1970 Tiger Team fin- ished the season with a re- cord of seven wins and one loss, ending up in second place in the conference missing the Championship by only one game. The Tigers were led by Co-Captains Doug Howie and Keith Hanson. Doug Olson calls signals as New England wins the con- ference trophy at Regent in 1969. The Tigers fought their best game of the year against the number one team in state B basketball, Beulah. The tuff Tigers displayed their talent to all and proved that they can be stiff competition even to the best. We lost by a mere 1 point in the last 4 seconds of the game. • 26 MOHALL TOURNAMENT PROVES DISAPPOINTING This years road trip took us to the Mohall Invitational Tournament. The first game was an easy victory over Westhope. The second game was a hair raising one point win over Lansford. In the final game of the Tournament we were defeated by Mohall. Even though we came home with a disappointing second we enjoyed the Tournament. 27 Varsity 69-70 TIGERS Opponents TIGERS Opponents TIGERS Opponents 57 76 Killdeer 77 55 Halliday 70 50 Richardton 60 65 Reeder 65 82 Hettinger 72 66 Regent 52 78 Mott 58 63 Mohall DISTRICT 32 40 39 Bowman 51 64 Watford City Bye 69 45 Beach 49 73 Hebron 62 69 Scranton 56 71 Glen Ullen 77 67 Scranton 66 55 Elgin 38 67 Welford 65 60 New Leipzig 61 60 Belfield FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: H. Presenting concerts, playing for basketball and football games, and marching were some of their main activities. Under the capable direction of their new leader, Mr. Michael Morey, the band carried out each assignment successfully. They presented the annual fall and spring concerts and performed for the legislature in Bismarck on February 4, 1971 through the work of Mr. Morey. The band practiced long and hard at their marching drills and performed at the Fall Festival, for Rep. Thomas Kleppe, and for Memorial Day services.
