DALE SCHATZ KEITH ULSTEAD ROGER MAGALKEY THEY LEFT Each one of us travels his own way in life, severed from the ways of man. Occasionally, our paths may merge and we travel together for a day and a night or forever. Twenty-one freshmen joined their ways together for four years in 1963 at New England High School. The road was similar if not the same as those of the other classes unless we take into consideration the little things that happened. The class consisted of James Bohlman, Camille Brovold, Amie Brodman, Carol Colgrove, Ted Doe, Peggy Dubisar, James Hares, Darrell Jalbert, Annetta Jorstad, Daryl Jung, Richard Olheiser, Earl Ming, LaRae Nelson, Duane Rettinger, Dennis Rustan, Dale Schatz, Kay Schwandt, Dean Steen, Wade Steen, Keith Ulstead As freshmen they endured the trials of initiation as they paraded through the grades, in front of the assembly of upper classmen and worst of all down main street. The sophomore year passed swiftly as they became accustomed to the schedules of classes, teachers, and homework. The class became faint as they dissected live rats in biology but they revived as they initiated those green freshmen. THE AGE OF FOOLISHNESS Sure we study--sometimes! THEIR MARK Forever a fond memory of the class will be that of stuffing millions of tissues into yards and yards of chicken wire as the members prepared for the prom, In the Misty Moonlight, presented to the seniors May 7. Another memory will be that of the big joint project to finance the prom, the junior play, The Sky's the Limit. And so the years speed by. The class gained Linda Hoffer and Joan Holden and lost Amie Brodman, James Hares, and Joan Holden. It came as a shock to realize that this was the last football game, the last basketball game, the last play, Everything Happens to Us, and the last six weeks. For a last fling, the seniors chose the Black Hills as the destination of their class trip. With lots of memories and a few tears, the twenty seniors presented their Class Night May 17. Baccalaureate and Graduation, the last hills in the way, were traveled May 21 and 25. Each graduate then went his separate way with a pledge from the heart to the fellow heart—Here's Luck! FHA COMBINES FUN WITH FUTURE TRAINING Good Family Relations Through Communications and Jobs, Careers, and You were the two national FHA projects emphasized in 1967. The NEHS Future Homemakers carried out these goals with a talent night, a Halloween film, a Mother, Daughter, and 8th grade girls tea, skits and talks by the employed and employers, and a slave-day when FHAers worked for the business men. Other activities included a speaker from the home for un-wed mothers, a talk from a former Alaskan social worker, and foreign costumes for roll call. The girls elected a Sweetheart Beau, sponsored the Homecoming hootenanny, and caroled at Christmas. The chapter was represented in state FHA activities by Maureen Broton, second state vice-president and Leota Zenker, district president for the 1966-67 year. State degree girls were Camille Brovold, Kay Schwandt, in 1966, and Maureen Broton, Sandra Flaaen, Leota Zenker, in 1967. 43 WE CHEERED ALONG THE WAY An important asset of any high school student body is school spirit that intangible quality which unites the students into one identity, as members of NEHS. Although this spirit quality is present in many forms, athletic contests give students the op- portunity to exhibit the type of spirit and unity their high school possesses. The NEHS cheerleaders and Pep Club were the backbone of the student support given the Tiger athletic teams. They organized and kept alive the high school's spirit. This well organized, active Pep Club was a valuable part of a spirited high school. 44 KNEELING: D. Stang, L. Nelson, P. Bach, D. Stagl, C. Colgrove. FRONT ROW: C. Austin, J. Hoffer, J. Belland, L. In the past two years our library has reaped the benefits of NDEA Title 3 Bookfund, a prograrp orga- nized by the government, which mat- ches, dollar for dollar, the amounts of money contributed by the school toward the purchase of books. The book shelves have gradually been filled with many dollars worth of high- ly recommended non-fiction books, improving the reference section. New magazines are being displayed with the old issues systematically stored for reference. The books are now ar- ranged under the Dewy Decimal System. 48 GRADES FIRST GRADERS ARE LEARNING AND ADVANCING C. Abbott R. Anderson D. Bautz D. Christensen K. Clark T. Feist R. Gordon T. Hintz J.
